SOLUTION: There are provided an NSAID of the formula, its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, and a new composition containing at least one nitrosated NSAID and optionally at least one compound that donates, transfers or releases nitric oxide, stimulates endogenous synthesis of nitric oxide, elevates endogenous levels of endothelium-derived blood vessel relaxing factor or is a substrate for a nitric oxide synthase, and/or at least one therapeutic agent. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory compound which does not have a side effect which accompanies a compound of prior art, and to provide a novel and improved method for treating inflammatory disease states and disorders, and for treating and/or preventing ophthalmic diseases or disorders. SOLUTION: A nitrogen monoxide group (NO) and/or a nitrogen dioxide group (NO2) are bonded with the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory compound, and the obtained compound has an excellent bioavailability, and an efficacy as an analgesic and antiphlogistic, and has a possibility of forming a gastroenteric damage (ulcer) which is reduced unexpectedly. Moreover, the obtained compound has an unexpected aspect in treating and/or preventing ophthalmic diseases and disorders. The nitrosated and/or nitrosylated nonsteroidal antiinflammatory compounds provide methods for treating, preventing and/or reducing inflammation, pain, and fever; decreasing or reversing the gastrointestinal, renal and other toxicities resulting from the use of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs.
