【課題】開環メタセシス重合によってポリマーを製造する方法であって、触媒は廉価なルテニウム化合物から生成されるべきであるが、前記の活性化剤を必要としない方法を提供する。 【解決手段】開環メタセシス重合によるポリマーを製造するにあたり、a)シクロアルケンまたはシクロアルケン混合物からなる反応混合物を提供するステップ、b)一般式RuX 1 X 2 L 1 a L 2 b (I)のルテニウム化合物を添加するステップ、c)連鎖移動剤を、前記シクロアルケンに対して、または前記シクロアルケン混合物中のシクロアルケンの合計に対して、1:5〜1:1000の範囲のモル比で添加するステップ、d)0℃〜250℃の範囲内の温度で転化させるステップを行う。 【選択図】なし

A method for preparing a cyclic olefin addition polymer of high gas permeability, which method including subjecting a specific type of cyclic olefin-functional siloxane and a mixture thereof with a specific type of cyclic olefin compound to addition polymerization in the presence of a multi-component catalyst containing (A) a zero-valent palladium compound, (B) an ionic boron compound, and (C) a phosphine compound having a substituent group selected from an alkyl group having 3 to 6 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group and an aryl group, to obtain a cyclic olefin addition polymer of high gas permeability wherein a ratio of the structural units derived from the cyclic olefin-functional siloxane is at 10 to 100 mole% of the addition polymer and a number average molecular weight (Mn) ranges from 100,000 to 2,000,000.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide catalytic compositions, a process for their preparation and their use for preparation of a polymer from an ethylenic unsaturated monomer. SOLUTION: The catalytic cationic metal complex compositions are cationic metal pair complexes having at least one metal pair with a particular structure having an internuclear distance of 1.5-20 Å between a 1st metal selected from the group consisting of Cu, Fe, Co, Ru, Rh, Cr and Mn, and a 2nd metal selected from the group consisting of Ni, Pd, Cu, Fe, Co, Rh, Cr and Mn. A process for polymerization of a polar and/or a non-polar ethylenic unsaturated monomer(s) using the catalytic compositions, and an addition polymer produced by the process are disclosed.
