    摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new complex capable of giving an optically active hydroxysulfide in a short time in high optical yield as a catalyst for the reaction between an epoxide and a thiol, by reaction of an optically active glycol oxide with gallium trichloride. SOLUTION: This complex is a new optically active gallium-glycol oxide complex expressed by formula I [R is a (1-6C alkyl- or phenyl-substituted) naphthyl or (1-6C alkyl- or phenyl-substituted) phenanthryl; M is an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal], being capable of giving an optically active hydroxysulfide of formula III in a short time in high optical yield as a catalyst for the reaction between an epoxide of formula II [R and R are each H, a 1-6C alkyl, or combined together into a (carbonyl-contg.) 5- to 8-membered ring] and a thio of the formula, R -SH (R is a 1-6C alkyl, benzyl, phenethyl or phenylpropyl). This complex is obtained by reaction between an optically active glycol oxide and gallium trichloride.
