Abstract: A method for repairing fuel tanks having detected leaks comprises (1) filling the detected leaks by applying an adhesive over the detected leaks and allowing the adhesive to cure to seal the detected leaks or (2) providing a fuel tank having a surface with detected leaks, providing a patch having a surface to be attached to the fuel tank surface having detected leaks, coating one or both surfaces with an adhesive, applying the patch over the detected leak(s) such that the adhesive is interposed between the patch surface and the tank surface, pressing the patch against the tank and allowing the adhesive to cure to bond the two surfaces together.

Abstract: An improved Diesel exhaust filter element of the type having a rigid porous wall portion formed of an acicular ceramic (such as acicular mullite), the porous wall portion having a first side and a second side, the porous wall portion being coated with a precious metal catalyst and a Nox absorbent, such that when exhaust gas from a Diesel engine is flowed through the rigid porous wall from the first side to the second side, the exhaust gas containing excess oxygen, Nox and soot, the soot in the exhaust gas in trapped within the rigid porous wall and catalytically oxidized to carbon dioxide, the NO is catalytically oxidized to NO2, which NO2 is then absorbed by the Nox absorbent, and such that when the exhaust gas is caused to contain excess hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide, then the Nox absorbent is regenerated and the remaining hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide are catalytically converted to nitrogen and carbon dioxide. In addition, a process for depositing precipitated metal ions on the surfaces of such a rigid porous wall.

Abstract: Cushions for dynamic impact applications include anisotropic cellular polymers made in an extrusion, expanded bead or reactive foaming process. The anisotropic behavior represented by CE/CT, CV/CT and CH/CT, wherein CE, CV and CH represent the compressive strength of the cellular polymer in each of three orthogonal directions E, V and H, respectively, as measured by compressing a 25-50 mm thick sample of the cellular polymer at a strain rate of 0.08 s−1 to 25% strain, CT represents the sum of CE, CV and CH, and at least one of CE/CT, CV/CT and CH/CT has a value of at least 0.40, up to about 0.80. The cellular polymer also preferably has density of 1.75 to 2.35 pounds/cubic foot and a compressive stress in the direction of maximum compressive strength of 290-600 kPa at 25% strain when used for headliner countermeasure applications. The cushions are useful in automotive applications such as automotive headliners, door panels, knee bolsters, pillars, headrests, seat backs, load floors or instrument panels.
