摘要:
A coating process comprising applying to a surface a coating composition consisting essentially of an alkali metal silicate and an aqueous liquid phase having dispersed therein solid aluminum particles to form on the surface a wet coating; and drying said wet coating: under conditions which convert said wet coating to an electrically conductive, corrosion-resistant, solid coating; or under conditions which form a solid coating which is not electrically conductive (non-conductive) and thereafter treating said non-conductive coating under conditions which convert said non-conductive coating to an electrically conductive, corrosion-resistant coating.

An article may include a substrate defining a surface imperfection and a coating deposited over the substrate. The coating does not substantially reproduce the surface imperfection, and the coating comprises mullite and at least one rare earth silicate, rare earth oxide, alumina, boron oxide, alkali metal oxide, alkali earth metal oxide, silicon, barium strontium aluminosilicate, barium aluminosilicate, strontium aluminosilicate, calcium aluminosilicate, magnesium aluminosilicate, or lithium aluminosilicate. In some examples, the coating may be a first coating deposited from a slurry over the substrate, and a second coating may be deposited over the first coating. In other examples, a first coating that substantially reproduces the surface imperfection may be deposited over the substrate, and the coating that does not substantially reproduce the surface imperfection may be deposited over the first coating.

Disclosed are compositions, such as inkjet inks or glazes, for jetting onto a ceramic substrate, and associated methods and systems. The compositions are configured to produce a blister relief effect, wherein the incorporation of inkjet technology provides precise control over the location and degree of blistering. The enhanced compositions are configured to form gas bubbles when exposed to the elevated temperatures of a firing cycle, wherein the formed gas is trapped within the glaze, causing an expansion or blistering of the glaze, which results in a raised relief.

A porous body is provided with enhanced fluid transport properties that is capable of performing or facilitating separations, or performing reactions and/or providing areas for such separations or reactions to take place. The porous body includes at least 80 percent alpha alumina and has a pore volume from 0.3 mL/g to 1.2 mL/g and a surface area from 0.3 m2/g to 3.0 m2/g. The porous body further includes a pore architecture that provides at least one of a tortuosity of 7.0 or less, a constriction of 4.0 or less and a permeability of 30 mdarcys or greater. The porous body can be used in a wide variety of applications such as, for example, as a filter, as a membrane or as a catalyst carrier.

A method for repair of composite materials includes applying a formulation to a ceramic matrix composite substrate. The formulation comprises a liquid carrier, a ceramic filler dispersed within the carrier, and a polymeric binder disposed in the carrier. The method further includes removing the carrier from the formulation to form a green composition; pyrolyzing the green composition to form a porous composition; disposing a liquid metal or metalloid within the pores of the porous composition to form an intermediate composite composition; and converting the liquid metal or metalloid to solid state to form a solid composite composition.

In some examples, a method includes identifying a damaged area in a ceramic matrix composite coating of an in-service component; applying a restoration slurry to the damaged area of the ceramic matrix composite coating, wherein the restoration slurry comprises a liquid carrier and a restoration coating material; drying the restoration slurry to form a dried restoration slurry; and heat treating the dried restoration slurry to form a restored portion of the ceramic matrix composite coating. In some examples, an assembly may include a component including a substrate and a coating on the substrate, where the coating defines a damaged portion; masking around the damaged portion on undamaged portions of the coating; and a restoration slurry in the damaged portion, wherein the restoration slurry comprises a liquid carrier and a restoration coating material.

The disclosure relates generally to recession resistant gas turbine engine articles that comprise a silicon containing substrate, and related coatings and methods. The present disclosure is directed, inter alia, to an engine article comprising a silicon substrate which is coated with a chemically stable porous oxide layer. The present disclosure also relates to articles comprising a substrate and a bond coat on top comprising a two phase layer of interconnected silicon and interconnected oxide, followed by a layer of silicon. The present disclosure further relates to a recession resistant article comprising an oxide in a silicon containing substrate, such that components of the silicon containing substrate is interconnected with oxides dispersed in the substrate and form the bulk of the recession resistant silicon containing article.
