Abstract:
A lubricant composition including an epoxide compound is disclosed. An additive package including the epoxide compound is also disclosed. The epoxide compound of the lubricant composition acts to improve compatibility of the lubricant composition with a fluoropolymer seal and improve the total base number of the lubricant composition.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition for a compression-ignition internal combustion engine comprises: (i) an amine as an ashless fuel additive having a total base number (“TBN”) of from about 200 to about 600 mg KOH/g when tested according to ASTM D2896; and (ii) a detergent selected from metal sulfonates, phenates, salicylates, carboxylates, thiophosphonates, and combinations thereof. The lubricant composition has a TBN of from about 20 to about 130 mg KOH/g when tested according to ASTM D2896, The amine contributes greater than about 30% of the TBN of the lubricant composition. Further, a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine with the lubricant composition comprises the steps of injecting a fuel and the lubricant composition into a cylinder to form a mixture, and combusting the mixture via compression-ignition.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition including a boroxine compound is disclosed. A lubricant composition and additive package including a boroxine compound and an amine compound are also disclosed. A method of lubricating a system comprising a fluoropolymer seal with the lubricant composition is also disclosed. The boroxine compound of the lubricant composition acts to improve compatibility of the lubricant composition with a fluoropolymer seal.
Abstract:
A polymer comprises a polymeric backbone, at least one piperidine ester moiety extending from the polymeric back-bone, and generally at least one C8 to C22 ester moiety extending from the polymeric backbone. The polymer is useful for adjusting the total base number and viscosity index of a lubricant composition. The lubricant composition generally comprises a base oil in addition to the polymer. A method of forming the polymer comprises the steps of providing a first component and providing a second component. The first component comprises at least one of A1) a piperidine methacrylate, or A2) a methacrylate. The second component comprises at least one of B) a C8 to C22 methacrylate. Optionally, the method further comprises the step of providing a third component, which comprises at least one of C) a piperidine-ol. The method further comprises at least one reaction step involving the aforementioned components to form the polymer.

Abstract:
Lubricant compositions comprising a base oil, one or more antioxidants selected from a group consisting of N-α-naphthyl-N-phenylamine antioxidants and diphenylamine antioxidants; and one or more sulfur-containing additives exhibit outstanding oxidative stability and non-corrosion properties. The N-α-naphthyl-N-phenylamine antioxidants plus diphenylamine antioxidants in total may be present from about 0.2 wt % to about 0.8 wt %, based on the total weight of the lubricant composition. The sulfur provided by the sulfur-containing additives, in total, may be present from about 50 ppm to about 1000 ppm by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricant composition.
