摘要: The invention relates to intraocular lenses coated with C.sub.12 -C.sub.36 alkyl groups that render the surface of the intraocular lens less prone to causing inflammation after implantation of the intraocular lens. The alkyl groups may be coated on the IOL by a centrifugal casting method, a solution deposition method (e.g., a covalent attachment method), or a plasma deposition method that minimizes fragmentation of the alkyl groups.

摘要: A method for enhancing bio-material capability for use as a supporting surface for cell culture is disclosed. The method requires exposure of the bio-material to a plasma polymerizable polymer gas, which includes oxygen-containing organic molecules. The material surfaces are then subjected to an RF plasma gas discharge in the presence of the gas, causing a deposition on the exposed material surfaces of a conformal overcoating of the polymer on the material. The deposition enhances fibronectin adsorption and hence cell attachment, spreading and cell growth. Preferred polymerizable gases are acetone, methanol, and ethylene oxide.

摘要: The present invention relates to hydrogen production for the generation of energy. The invention describes methods, devices and assemblies involving hydrogen production including reacting hydrogen producing compounds, such as organothiol compounds, with a reactive metal substrate to produce hydrogen gas and utilizing the hydrogen gas to generate energy. The present invention further describes regenerating spent compound to a form suitable for hydrogen production by reacting the spent compound with hydrogen. Hydrogen storage and production, as described herein, is useful for producing hydrogen for energy production in hydrogen consuming devices, such as combustible engines and fuel cells, for example, as located on a hydrogen powered vehicle.
