The polishing device may be formed to include a base, a resin layer adhering to the base, and a plurality of embossed abrasive particles and/or abrasive beads affixed to the base by the resin layer. The plurality of abrasive particles and/or beads may be embossed in the resin layer. The plurality of abrasive beads may include a plurality of abrasive particles suspended in binder material. The plurality of abrasive particles and/or beads and the resin layer combine to form an abrasive side of the polishing device adapted to contact the substrate. Polishing of the substrate preferably includes polishing an edge of the substrate while the substrate is rotated by a holding device such that no apparatus other than the polishing tape contacts the edge while the substrate is rotating.

摘要: To provide a lathing method capable of realizing lathing of a bar member made of a hard cutting material and lathing a stock made of a hard cutting material by a lathe including an NC automatic lathe, although lathing of the hard cutting material is impossible in a conventional case, a round bar is rotatably held to be fed along the longitudinal direction of the round bar by a guide bush fixed on the main body side of the lathing apparatus, and the round bar is sequentially fed from the guide bush to a machining tool arranged on the main body side, thereby lathing the round bar in a cantilevered state. For this purpose, a round bar having a solid lubricant layer having a predetermined thickness on the outer surface of the round bar in advance, thereby lathing the round bar so as to reduce friction.

摘要: The present invention relates to an electrostatic information recording medium in which a charge retaining layer having high insulating properties is laminated on an electrode, and an electrostatic information recording/reproducing process wherein, while said electrostatic information recording medium is positioned in opposition to a photosensitive member on which a photoconductive layer is laminated, the recording medium is subjected to information exposure with the application of voltage between both electrodes to accumulate electrostatic charges thereon depending upon the dosage of said information exposure, and the electrostatic information thus accumulated is reproduced by potential reading. The present electrostatic information recording medium has an information density as expressed in terms of a high recording capacity of the order of 8.times.10.sup.8 bits/cm.sup.2, and makes it possible to process information in a planar state so that analog or digital information such as characters, line pictures, images, (0.multidot.1) information and sounds can be accumulated in the form of electrostatic charges. With the present electrostatic information recording medium, it is possible to obtain information of high quality and resolving power because of the information being accumulatable in electrostatic charge units. Due to its high charge retainability, it is further possible to store information permanently. Still further, it is possible to make inexpensive and simple recording/reproducing systems, since information can be output by reading local potentials of electrostatic latent images at any time and any scanning density.

For this purpose, a round bar having a solid lubricant layer having a predetermined thickness on the outer surface of the round bar in advance, thereby lathing the round bar so as to reduce friction. Alternatively, a stock is gripped by the chuck of a lathe which performs turning or a lathing device which performs any other machining in addition to the turning, and the stock is lathed while the outer surface thereof is held to prevent an off-axis error. For this purpose, at least a solid lubricant layer is formed in advance to have a predetermined thickness at a predetermined position where the stock is held to reduce friction. The solid lubricant layer is held in slidable contact with an off-axis preventing device and lathed while preventing the off-axis error.
