Abstract: A hollow spring member and hollow spring member production method can be provided, which can save the time and energy necessary for carburization, thus requiring no dedicated carburizing furnace or the like for carburization, and further can make the interior space of a steel tube a rust-prevention atmosphere. A hollow stabilizer for a vehicle includes a steel tube sealed at one end and another end thereof and a carburizing gas sealed in the interior space of the steel tube.

Abstract: A carburization device includes a heating furnace which heats a material, a transfer mechanism, an alcohol vapor generator, an alcohol vapor spraying portion, a quenching tank, and an exhaust heat intake tube. The transfer mechanism moves a plurality of materials. The alcohol vapor generator uses part of heat generated by the heating furnace as a heat source. As the alcohol vapor spraying portion repeats a vapor spraying step and a diffusion step a plurality of times in the heating furnace. In the vapor spraying step, by spraying alcohol vapor on the material which moves inside the heating furnace, carbon in the alcohol is adsorbed to the material. In the diffusion step, an interval for diffusing the carbon adsorbed to the material is taken.

Abstract: A steel has a predetermined chemical composition with a balance being Fe and incidental impurities, wherein a sum of Cu content and Ni content is 0.15 mass % or more, and a crystal grain size after forming into a stabilizer shape and quenching is in a range of 7.5 to 10.5 in prior austenite crystal grain size number. Thus, a highly durable stabilizer steel that has a tensile strength of 1200 MPa or more and excellent normal-temperature and low-temperature toughness and is used in an environmentally friendly manufacturing process at lower cost can be realized.

Abstract: A terminal sealed portion is formed on an end portion of a hollow rod made of steel. An enclosed space is formed on an inner side of the hollow rod. At an end of the enclosed space, a terminal gap is formed. A volatile powdered rust inhibitor is supplied in the enclosed space. As the volatile powdered rust inhibitor is vaporized, the enclosed space is turned into a rust-inhibiting atmosphere. As the vaporized component of the volatile powdered rust inhibitor is adsorbed to an inner surface of the enclosed space, an inner surface rust-inhibiting film is formed. The vaporized component also enters inside the terminal gap, and forms a terminal rust-inhibiting film.

Abstract: A compressive residual stress portion having a compressive residual stress from a surface of a wire to a first depth is formed between end turn portions of a coil spring. The first portion of the end turn portion is always in contact with a spring seat. The second portion contacts the spring seat when the load applied to the coil spring is large, and is separated from the spring seat when the load is small. The third portion is always separated from the spring seat. In the end turn portion, in a region including the second portion, a deep residual stress portion is formed by ultrasonic shot peening. The deep residual stress portion has a compressive residual stress from a surface of the wire to a second depth deeper than the first depth.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a suspension coil spring includes forming first shot peening indentations on a surface of a wire by projecting first shots toward the wire and forming a compressive residual stress portion to which a compressive residual stress is imparted from the surface of the wire to a first depth, and projecting ball shots as second shots toward a lower end turn portion by an ultrasonic apparatus. A size of each ball shot is larger than a size of each first shot. The method includes forming second shot peening indentations on a surface of the lower end turn portion, and a deep residual stress portion in the lower end turn portion, a compressive residual stress of the deep residual stress portion imparted from the surface of the wire to a second depth that is deeper than the first depth.

Abstract: A hollow stabilizer production method of a hollow stabilizer used for a vehicle includes attaching a first mounting member and a second mounting member respectively to one end and another end of a formed steel tube and heating the steel tube. The method includes feeding a carburizing gas into the interior space of the heated steel tube through the first mounting member, and collecting the air and/or the surplus carburizing gas from the interior space through the second mounting member to thereby carburize the steel tube inner surface. The method includes rapidly cooling the heated steel tube to thereby quench the steel tube continuously from the carburization.

The production method for stabilizers of the invention includes: forming a steel bar material containing at least C: 0.15 wt % to 0.39 wt %, Mn, B and Fe into a product shape by bending; and quenching the bent steel bar material in a medium having a heat transfer coefficient higher than or close to that of water.
