    摘要: The present invention is a method for oxyfunctionalizing, that is, introducing oxygen functionality to, a polyolefin such as polypropylene and poly(ethylene-alt-propylene). The polyolefin is contacted with an oxygen source such as a persulfate and catalytic amounts of a metal porphyrin complex under mild conditions to yield an oxyfunctionalized polymer that has a polydispersity that is very similar to that of the starting polymer.

    摘要: Chewing gums and chewing gum bases which are cud-forming and chewable at mouth temperature contains a multi-block copolymer having at least two repeating sequences of at least two different polymeric blocks having at least three monomer units each. The multi-block copolymer optionally includes linking units and may be formulated to have non-covalent crosslinking between the copolymer chains. The multi-block copolymer is optionally plasticized with a compatible di-block copolymer to function as an elastomer system in the gum base. Characteristics of the multi-block copolymers can be selected to produce gum bases and chewing gums having desired properties. In some cases, chewed cuds formed from the gum bases may exhibit improved removability from environmental surfaces to which they may become undesirably attached.

    摘要: Disclosed are ruthenium and osmium carbene compounds which are stable in the presence of a variety of functional groups and which can be used to catalyze olefin metathesis reactions on unstrained cyclic and acyclic olefins. A broad array of metathesis reactions are enabled including ring-opening metathesis polymerization of cyclic olefins, ring closing metathesis of acyclic dienes, cross metathesis involving at least one acyclic or unstrained cyclic olefin, and depolymerization of unsaturated polymers.

In one example, a method comprises forming poly(1,5-cyclooctadiene-co-5-norbornene-2-menthanol) by reacting 1,5-cyclooctadiene and 5-norbornene-2-methanol in the presence of a 2nd generation Grubbs' catalyst and cis-1,4-diacetoxy-2-butene as a chain transfer agent and forming poly(1,5-cyclooctadiene-co-5-norbornene-2-methanol-graft-lactide) by reacting the poly(1,5-cyclooctadiene-co-5-norbornene-2-menthanol) as a macroinitiator with lactide in the presence of tin 2-ethylhexanoate and toluene or in the presence of 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene and dichloromethane.

    摘要: The present invention relates to the post-polymerization fluorination methods of polymers produced via ring-opening metathesis polymerization. Unlike prior art methods that result in low product yields and generally involve chemically aggressive reagents, the inventive methods produce fluorinated polymers in quantitative yields and under mild conditions. In preferred embodiments, a source of difluorocarbene is reacted with the desired polydiene to form a fluorinated polymer product. In preferred embodiments, the source of difluorocarbene is hexafluoropropylene oxide and the polydiene is poly-dicyclopentadiene (“poly-DCPD”). Fluorination and the concomitant removal of unsaturated bonds result in polymers having improved physical properties such as improved strength characteristics, enhanced oxidative and chemical stability, and low surface energies.
