Abstract:
The present invention relates to an aqueous dispersion of a class of organic phosphate functionalized microspheres having a particle size in the range of from 1 μm to 25 μm, and a process for preparing the dispersion. The microspheres, which have a low coefficient of variation and low gel concentration, are useful in coatings applications, especially where a matte finish is desired.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles and crosslinked polymer beads that are each functionalized with keto groups, and a diamine or dihydrazide crosslinking agent. The dispersions of the present invention are useful in coatings applications.

The present invention relates to composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of microspheres and a class of a nonionic polyalkylene oxide of a distyryl or tristyryl phenol or an anionic polyalkylene oxide salt of a distyryl or tristyryl phenol and a process for preparing the composition. The microspheres have an average particle size in the range of from 1 μm to 25 μm, as well as a low coefficient of variation and low gel concentration; the composition is useful in coatings applications, especially where a matte finish is desired.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a deep base or accent coating composition comprising an acrylic based binder and a Zn++ additive. The composition of the present invention resists water staining better than comparable formulations that do not contain the additive.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of spheroidal particles having a mode particle size of from 10 to 30 μm. The spheroidal particles are useful as organic extenders, especially in below-critical pigmented coatings formulations, and provide coatings with improved stain removal properties.
Abstract:
The present invention is a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a binder and a salt of the following fluoroalkyl phosphonic acid: wherein n, q, and p are as described herein. The composition of the present invention is useful as a block additive in coating compositions.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for preparing a multiplicity of containers of paint from a plurality of vessels separately containing an aqueous solution of a rheology modifier, an aqueous dispersion of a colorant, an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles, and an aqueous dispersion of organic polymeric microspheres. In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a method of dispensing a colorant or an opacifying agent or an inorganic extender into separate containers partially filled with a waterborne pre-paint mixture of rheology modifier, polymer particles, and organic polymeric microspheres. The process of the present invention provides a simple and cost-effective way of preparing a wide variety of a large quantity of contained and finished paints at point-of-sale.
Abstract:
The present invention is a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of first and second polymer particles; and polymeric organic crosslinked microspheres; wherein, the weight-to-weight ratio of second polymer particles to first polymer particles is in the range of from 50:50 to 80:20; and wherein the weight-to-weight ratio of the microspheres to the first and second polymer particles is in the range of from 3:97 to 20:80. The composition of the present invention is useful semi-gloss or satin paint formulations with excellent mar resistance.
