Abstract:
Improvements in dispersant viscosity index improvers having antioxidant properties and their use in lubricating oils are disclosed. An ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber has grafted thereon a vinyl monomer having an epoxy group to form a precursor which is condensed with a 5-aminotetrazole by ring opening of the pendent epoxide group.
Abstract:
A polymeric lubricant additive that behaves as a viscosity index improver and imparts enhanced anti-oxidancy, dispersnacy, and anti-wear properties to said lubricant oil has been prepared. The polymeric substrate is a random co- or terpolyer of ethylene propylene and a third monomer onto which an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or acid anhydride has been grafted. The polymer is imidized with aminoheterocyclics and hydroxylalkylated using an aldehyde or ketone an alkylation; than alkylated using mercaptoheterocyclics.
Abstract:
A railway diesel crankcase lubricant composition comprising a major portion of a diesel lubricating oil and a minor amount of, as an oxidation and corrosion inhibiting additive, a condensate product prepared by the process comprising:(a) reacting a dibasic acid anhydride with an oligomeric isobutylene to form a succinic anhydride;(b) reacting the succinic anhydride with an N-alkyl alkylene diamine to produce a succinimide-amine;(c) reacting the succinimide-amine with a polyaromatic diisocyanate to produce a phenylurea isocyanophenylmethane;(d) reacting the isocyanophenylmethane with a heterocyclic compound containing a thiadiazole nucleus to a condensation product of a mercaptothiadiazole-phenylmethane; and(e) recovering the condensation product.
Abstract:
A railway diesel crankcase lubricant composition comprising a major portion of a diesel lubricating oil and a minor amount of, as an oxidation and corrosion inhibiting agent, a condensate product prepared by the process comprising:(a) reacting a dibasic acid anhydride, separately, with:(i) a oligomeric isobutylene, and(ii) 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4,-thiadiazole, to produce, respectively, oligomeric(isobutylene-g-succinic anhydride) and 2-thio-(5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole) succinic anhydride;(b) reacting both of the succinic anhydrides with pentamethylenediamine to produce the [2-thio-(5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole)]-[oligomeric(isobutylene-g-succinic)]-pentamethylenetetraamine-bis succinimide product; and(c) recovering the bis-succinimide product.

Abstract:
A lubricating oil additive with rust and haze inhibiting properties which comprises the reaction product of an alkyl sarcosine represented by the figure ##STR1## where R is a (C.sub.3 -C.sub.30) alkyl radical and poly (propylene oxide). A lubricating oil composition containing the additive is also provided.
