Abstract: Provided is an optical device including an active layer, which includes two outer barriers and a coupled quantum well between the two outer barriers. The coupled quantum well includes a first quantum well layer, a second quantum well layer, a third quantum well layer, a first coupling barrier between the first quantum well layer and the second quantum well layer, and a second coupling barrier between the second quantum well layer and the third quantum well layer. The second quantum well layer is between the first quantum well layer and the third quantum well layer. An energy band gap of the second quantum well layer is less than an energy band gap of the first quantum well layer, and an energy band gap of the third quantum well layer is equal to or less than the energy band gap of the second quantum well layer.

Abstract: A method of measuring a distance by using a 3-dimensional (3D) depth sensor is provided. The method may include: measuring m number of frames using light modulated at a first frequency to determine a first tentative distance from a viewpoint to an object at the first frequency, m being a positive integer; measuring n number of frames using light modulated at a second frequency to determine a second tentative distance from the viewpoint to the object at the second frequency, n being a positive integer, a sum of m and n being four; and determining a resulting distance to the object based on the first distance and the second distance.

Abstract: An image processing method for reducing distortion of a depth image may include: obtaining a plurality of original images based on light beams which are emitted to and reflected from a subject; determining original depth values of original depth images obtained from the plurality of original images, based on phase delays of the light beams, the reflected light beams comprising multi-reflective light beams that distort the original depth values; determining imaginary intensities of the multi-reflective light beams with respective to each phase of the multi-reflective light beams, based on regions having intensities greater than a predetermined intensity in the original depth images; correcting the original depth values of the original depth images, based on the imaginary intensities of the multi-reflective light beams; and generating corrected depth images based on the corrected original depth values.

The 3D camera includes, as well as a light source, a transmission type shutter, and an image sensor, and a wavelength-variable light source capable of irradiating a light with a variable wavelength without being thermally affected by the light source, the image sensor, and the transmission type shutter. The wavelength-variable light source may directly measure a change in transmittance by irradiating light toward the transmission type shutter while the 3D camera operates.
