    Abstract: The present invention relates to custom tailored bio-polymer compositions, nanoparticle bio-polymer compositions, green methods for making the bio-polymers and nanoparticle bio-polymers from bio-waste using DES/NADES, and agricultural formulations containing the bio-polymers and nanoparticle bio-polymers. The bio-polymers and nanoparticle bio-polymers can be used as biostimulants, used as targeted delivery systems or both. Bio-polymers and nanoparticle bio-polymers can be used to stimulate plant growth and development, stimulate root growth, increase adsorption of nutrients, increase crop yield, improve the quality and taste of crops, increase specific amino acid or other nutrient content, and for protection against various pathogens. Functional groups can be attached to the bio-polymers and nanoparticle bio-polymers to produce an engineered molecule with additional characteristics such as pH and/or temperature responsiveness, targeting or anchoring properties and improved stability. The method for synthesizing the bio-polymers and nanoparticle bio-polymers from bio-waste is simple, cost-effective and highly scalable for commercial availability. The bio-polymers and nanoparticle bio-polymers can be used in agricultural formulations such as fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.

    Abstract: A process for the preparation of microcapsules comprising the steps of—preparing an oil-phase comprising a multifunctional ethylenically unsaturated monomer or oligomer wherein the water solubility of the multifunctional ethylenically unsaturated monomer or oligomer at 20° C. in deionised water is less than 2 gram/litre, —forming an oil-in-water emulsion with the oil phase, —subjecting the oil-in-water emulsion to conditions suitable to initiate interfacial polymerization at the oil-water interface using a radical initiator with a water solubility at 20° C. in deionised water which is at least 1 gram/litre.
