    Abstract: A fluid damping apparatus includes a housing enclosing a chamber retaining a damping fluid, a piston disposed in the housing chamber and movable between a first end position and a second end position, and a variable volume element disposed in the housing chamber having a first size occupying a first volume in the housing chamber. Increased fluid pressure of the damping fluid (e.g., resulting from increased temperature of the fluid damping apparatus and associated expansion of the damping fluid) compresses the variable volume element to a second size occupying a second volume in the housing chamber smaller than the first volume, to permit expansion of the damping fluid, thereby limiting fluid pressure of the damping fluid.

    Abstract: A friction based counterbalance mechanism for coupling with a closure panel of a vehicle to assist in opening and closing of the closure panel, the counterbalance mechanism including: a first housing having a first pivot connection mount for connecting to one of a body of the vehicle and the closure panel; an extension member coupled to the first housing at one end and being extendable and retractable with respect to a second housing coupled adjacent to the first housing along an axis, the second housing for connecting by a second pivot connection mount to the other of the body and the closure panel; a sliding friction mechanism having: a shaped sleeve mounted on an exterior surface of the extension member, the shaped sleeve providing an exterior friction surface; and a resilient friction element mounted to the second housing in a fixed location on the axis, the resilient friction element positioned between second housing and the shaped sleeve and biased into contact with the exterior friction surface; wherein relative movement between the shaped sleeve and the resilient friction element as the extension member is displaced generates sliding friction between the resilient friction element and the shaped sleeve.

    Abstract: The present invention addresses the problem of providing a one-way clutch and a one-way clutch-equipped rotating damper device with which it is possible to achieve size reduction. A pawl portion of a slide member comprises a withdrawal surface and an engaging surface. When a gear member rotates toward one side, as inner teeth and the withdrawal surface abut each other, the slide member slides in a sliding direction and the pawl portion is withdrawn from the inner teeth, whereby the gear member rotates independently of a rotor shaft. When the gear member rotates toward the other side as the inner teeth and the engaging surface abut each other, the inner teeth and the engaging surface become engaged, whereby the gear member and the rotor shaft rotate integrally.
