摘要: An apparatus (10) for compressing and expanding a gas includes a chamber (22), a positive displacement device (24) moveable relative thereto, first and second valves (26, 28) activatable to control flow of gas into and out of the chamber (22) and a controller (80) for controlling activation of the valves (26, 28) that selectively switches operation between a compression and an expansion mode with selective switching between modes being achieved by selectively changing the activation timing of at least one of the valves during the first mode. An energy storage system including the device may be operatively coupled via a rotary device for power transmission to an input/output device, whereby the direction and speed of rotation are preserved during switching, and the input/output device may be synchronised to the grid.

摘要: An Advanced Uniflow Rankine Engine (“AURE”) that is effective and thermodynamically efficient at higher speeds (e.g., 400-1800 rpm) and has low torque output. This allows the AURE to be compact of size without the need for a massive foundation found in prior art steam engines. The AURE includes an admission valve assembly, a cylinder head/valve gear assembly, a cylinder/piston assembly, a crank shaft assembly, an external sump, and an integral condenser. The admission valve assembly includes a counterbalancing poppet valve and valve stem that creates counterbalanced unsupported areas that allow the poppet valve to operate at higher speeds. The AURE can be fueled by raw, unprocessed fuel, including biomass, to generate efficient energy in a smaller overall package.

摘要: The invention relates to the adaptation of an internal combustion engine so that it can be operated using compressed air instead of fuel. A system is provided for operating an internal combustion engine that has at least one cylinder and a reciprocating piston. The fuel and the spark plugs are substituted by a system that uses air or a different compressed gas as a driving force means which is supplied into the combustion chamber through the opening of the spark plug. Said system includes a differential compressor (2), a tank for storing compressed air (3), a distributing valve (4) coupled to the camshaft of the engine (1), application valves (5) connected in the openings of the spark plugs, suction (6), output (7) and drying (8 and 9) air filters, non-return valves (10), an automatic closing valve (11), a manual closing valve (12), an acceleration valve (13), a safety valve (14), an exhaust air pressure tube (15), a suction (16) and output (17) tube, suction (18) and exhaust (19) multiples, an emergency compressor (20) and atmospheric air intakes (21 and 22).

摘要: An internal combustion gasoline engine can be converted to a pneumatic engine with zero harmful emissions and zero recurring fuel cost. This can be accomplished by converting DC battery power to AC current, and using the AC current to operate a hot compressed air device. A hot-air delivery system which can replace gasoline and spark plugs with heated pneumatic energy, which is delivered to the engine through pneumatic injector plugs, in accordance to engine firing order. As the engine compresses cold intake air, and it is mixed with the heated compressed air a violent reaction is achieved, this action drives the engine piston downward. When this process is repeated the engine crankshaft will rotate with speed and torque enough to cause an automobile to self propel along a surface.

摘要: A solid fuel preferred to be prepared from cleaned and pressed coal powder to a high density is led into a combustion chamber. Air is compressed to a high temperature which exceeds the self ignition temperature of the mentioned solid fuel. This compressed air is also led into the combustion chamber to meet there the tip of the solid fuel sheet and to ignite and burn the fuel in the hot air in the combustion chamber. The hot burned gas can then be led into an expander and the expander can drive a compressor for the supply of the mentioned hot air. The device then forms a combustion engine with continuous combustion in an external combustion chamber. In my parental U.S. Pat. No. 4,809,503 the solid fule is a fuel bar. This present application deals mainly with a solid fuel sheet or tape which is wider than it is thick. Thereby it is secured that the fuel portions meet exactly the required amounts of hot air locally at a wide meeting and burning place.

摘要: A vehicle kinetic energy reclaiming system employs the vehicle's engine (10) to compress air when the vehicle decelerates and reuses the stored compressed air to drive an air motor (78) which assists in powering the vehicle when it is underway again. When the vehicle begins to decelerate, an accelerator switch (24) causes a valve (38) in a carburetor (34) bypass pipe to open, allowing ample air to enter and be compressed by the engine, which is driven by the vehicle's kinetic energy through the transmission (42). This helps decelerate the vehicle and saves its brakes. The same switch closes a valve (22) in the exhaust line (18-19), causing the compressed air to be diverted to a storage tank (26). When enough pressure in accumulated in the tank, a pressure release valve (74) in the tanks' output opens and a valve switch (72) closes, allowing air to reach an accelerator-controlled valve (88). This enables a clutch (76), which connects the air motor to the vehicle's transmission, to be operated. When the vehicle is underway again, the accelerator switch causes the air motor clutch to engage, connecting the air motor to the transmission. Also a linkage (86) from the accelerator opens the accelerator-controlled valve, allowing air from the tank to reach the air motor. As a result the air motor is powered by the stored compressed air, thereby adding power to the vehicle and reclaiming the stored kinetic energy to save fuel.

摘要: A method is described wherein the efficiency of an internal combustion engine is upgraded. Heat from the engine block is used to generate high pressure steam. The steam is generated in a chamber separate from and in addition to the standard engine cooling system water jacket. The high pressure steam is fed to a selected one of the engine pistons and used to drive that piston in an otherwise alternating pattern with the combustion stroke. The steam drive and the combustion drive for the selected piston alternate one with respect to the other.
