    Abstract: The disclosure describes an automated aerial vehicle (AAV) and system for automatically detecting a contact or an imminent contact between a propeller of the AAV and an object (e.g., human, pet, or other animal). When a contact or an imminent contact is detected, a safety profile may be executed to reduce or avoid any potential harm to the object and/or the AAV. For example, if a contact with a propeller of the AAV by an object is detected, the rotation of the propeller may be stopped to avoid harming the object. Likewise, an object detection component may be used to detect an object that is nearing a propeller, stop the rotation of the propeller, and/or navigate the AAV away from the detected object.

    Abstract: A method and circuit for braking a forward rotation of a rotor of a polyphase DC motor. A commutation sequencer is incremented by several phases to produce an incremented commutation sequence to produce a magnetic flux vector that lags a magnetic pole of the motor. Driving currents are applied to coils of the motor in accordance with the incremented commutation sequence to brake the rotor. The method is implemented in a circuit that has a sequencer for incrementally generating sets of commutation signals to select stator coils for energization to rotate the rotor. A power stage to which the commutation signals are applied energizes the selected coils in accordance with the commutation signals. A circuit interrupts the energization of the selected coils and the commutation sequence is altered to produce a sequence that produces a negative torque on the rotor. Circuits are also provided to inhibit application of the altered commutation sequence until recirculation currents in the power stage caused by the coils in response to the reduction of the input voltage have fallen below a predetermined level, and to inhibit application of the altered commutation sequence until a voltage on a sense resistor between the power stage and a reference potential has fallen below a predetermined level after an operation of the circuit for interrupting the energization of the selected coils.

    Abstract: A motor control device which prevents runaway reverse rotation arising from failure of detection of a rotational speed drop of a motor to a preset value when reverse torque braking is applied. In the first invention, rotation drop detection section 5 detects, from rotational pulses P1 generated by rotational pulse generation section 4, a rotational speed drop to the preset value and outputs rotation drop detection pulse P2. Timer section 6 is activated by rotation stopping signal S1 and outputs pulse P3 upon lapse of the maximum rotation stopping required time of the motor. Control section 1 delivers, upon reception of rotation stopping signal S1 from the outside, a signal to apply reverse torque to motor drive section 2 and then delivers, upon reception of rotation drop detection pulse P2 or pulse P3, an instruction to stop reverse torque. In the second invention, timer section 7 is additionally provided. If the motor enters reverse rotation after a motor rotational speed drop is not detected, control section 1 delivers an instruction to apply forward torque by pulse P3 and timer section 7 is also activated by pulse P3. When a preset time elapses, timer section 7 outputs, to control section 1, pulse P4, in response to which control section 1 delivers an instruction to again apply reverse torque. Control section 1 delivers, when the motor rotational speed becomes lower than a preset value, another instruction to cancel torque application.

    Abstract: A motor controller comprises a plug detect circuit which detects "continuous" plug diode conduction during plug braking. The plug detect circuit detects "continuous" plug braking by detecting when a plug diode is or is not conducting current throughout substantially the entire time that a power MOSFET controlling the plug braking is conductive in one pulse width modulated MOSFET switching cycle. Continuous plug detection facilitates the motor controller's controlling a vehicle so that the vehicle has a more constant and smooth plug braking deceleration and subsequent powered acceleration in the opposite direction. According to another aspect of the invention, a motor controller comprises a POT HI and a POT LO driver circuit. The POT HI and POT LO driver circuits allow the detection of faults in throttle devices and the connections of the throttle devices to the POT HI and POT LO driver circuits. One of the POT HI and POT LO driver circuits has a greater current limit than does the other driver circuit so that numerous faults including open circuit breaks in the connection of a throttle device as well as shorts across or through the throttle device are detectable by the motor controller.
