Abstract: Embodiments relate to polycrystalline diamond compacts (“PDCs”) including a polycrystalline diamond (“PCD”) table having a diamond grain size distribution selected for improving performance and/or leachability. In an embodiment, a PDC includes a PCD table bonded to a substrate. The PCD table includes a plurality of diamond grains exhibiting diamond-to-diamond bonding therebetween. Other embodiments are directed to methods of forming PDCs, and various applications for such PDCs in rotary drill bits, bearing apparatuses, and wire-drawing dies.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a polycrystalline diamond table includes a plurality of bonded diamond grains and a plurality of interstitial regions defined by the plurality of bonded diamond grains. The polycrystalline diamond table may be at least partially leached such that at least a portion of at least one interstitial constituent has been removed from at least a portion of the plurality of interstitial regions by exposure to a leaching agent. The leaching agent may include a mixture having a ratio of weight % hydrofluoric acid to weight % nitric acid of about 1.0 to about 2.4, and water in a concentration of about 50 weight % to about 85 weight %. Various other materials, articles, and methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: An apparatus for the manufacture of cubic Boron Nitride includes a pressure vessel having a chamber therein, and a body located in the chamber. The pressure vessel and the body are formed of materials having different coefficients of expansion. The coefficient of expansion of the body is greater than the coefficient of expansion of the pressure vessel. The pressure vessel is formed from a material having a melting point in excess of 1327° C. and capable of withstanding a pressure of at least 4.4Gpa at a temperature of at least 1327° C. The chamber is configured to receive the body, and a Boron Nitride source, the apparatus further comprising a furnace configured to heat at least the body to a temperature at least of 1327° C. The coefficient of expansion of the body is selected such that upon heating thereof to at least 1327° C. the pressure exerted on the Boron Nitride source is at least 4.4Gpa.

Abstract: A synthetic single crystal diamond containing 100 ppm or more and 1500 ppm or less of nitrogen atoms, in which the synthetic single crystal diamond contains aggregates each composed of one vacancy and two to four nitrogen atoms present adjacent to the vacancy, a ratio b/a of a length b of a short diagonal line to a length a of a long diagonal line of diagonal lines of a Knoop indentation in a direction in a {001} plane of the synthetic single crystal diamond is 0.08 or less, and the Knoop indentation is formed by measuring Knoop hardness in the direction in the {001} plane of the synthetic single crystal diamond according to JIS Z 2251: 2009 under conditions of a temperature of 23° C.±5° C. and a test load of 4.9 N.

Abstract: [Technical Problem]To provide diamond grits with enhanced friability, and method for the production comprising in combination internal microcracks within the diamond particle and surface irregularities, with or without a layer of non-diamond carbon covering the particle surface.
[Solution to Problem]
The diamond grits of the invention consist of diamond particles synthesized by a static ultrahigh pressure-high temperature process, comprising both microcracks generated within the particles due to the effect of heating, and surface irregularities formed on the particles by oxidizing etching at elevated temperatures.
The production method comprises providing a starting volume of diamond particles, from a synthesizing process in a static ultrahigh pressure-high temperature process, subjecting said diamond particles to a heating process in intimate contact with an oxidizing etchant at a temperature of 800° C. or higher, generating thus microcracks within the diamond particles and also causing to corrode the particle surface thus forming increased surface irregularities, and recovering the treated diamond particles.-

Abstract: The present invention provides a preparation method of amorphous GeH, and belongs to the field of preparation technologies of amorphous GeH. The preparation method provided in the present invention includes the following step: sealing crystalline GeH, a pressure calibration object, and a pressure transmitting medium in a cavity of a diamond anvil cell, and adjusting pressure in the cavity to obtain amorphous GeH. In the present invention, pressure is applied to the GeH in the sealed diamond anvil cell, to implement amorphization of the GeH at room temperature. In this way, impurities can hardly be found in the preparation method, and pure amorphous GeH can be obtained. In addition, the method provided in the present invention has simple operations and good repeatability.

Abstract: Systems and methods include a computer-implemented method for manufacturing a binder for spraying onto tools. A binder is manufactured for binding compacts onto a tool substrate. The binder is designed to provide a coating strength on the tool substrate. The binder includes: a metal selected from iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), and nickel (Ni); an alloy including the metal selected from Fe, Co, and Ni; or a refractory alloy selected from tungsten, tantalum (Ta), molybdenum (Mo), and niobium (Nb). An ultra-high-pressure, high-temperature operation is performed on pure wurtzite boron nitride (w-BN) powder to synthesize w-BN and cubic boron nitride (c-BN) compact. A binder-compact mixture is produced by turbulently mixing the binder with the compact in a mixer within a vacuum. The binder-compact mixture is thermally sprayed onto a tool substrate to coat the tool.
