Abstract:
The photocathode described has improved quantum efficiency in the near infrared wavelength region. The photocathode comprises a silicon crystal having carbon atoms bound to the silicon in the surface region and a work-function-reducing layer.
Abstract:
An amplifier suitable for use as a driver amplifier in a television transmitter is described. An upper sideband peaking circuit is coupled across the input of the amplifier. The amplifier with the peaking circuit, in response to an amplitude modulated carrier wave, provides an amplified replica of the input wave with a uniform amplitude over a selected range of sideband frequencies.
Abstract:
A first pair of complementary transistors have their conduction paths serially connected between supply and ground with the midpoint of the series connected to an output terminal. A control circuit comprising two pair of complementary transistors coupled to the control electrodes of the first pair of complementary transistors applies complementary signals thereto in response to a control signal manifestation of one value for maintaining both transistors of the first pair off, and applies identical signals thereto in response to a control signal manifestation of a second value for turning one transistor of the first pair on.
Abstract:
An information record employs a storage medium comprising a metallized base material having a dielectric coating thereon. The dimensions of an information track contained in a groove in the storage medium vary in accordance with recorded information. The capacitance between an electrode in a pickup tracking in said groove and the metallized surface of the storage medium varies in accordance with the modulated information track as the pickup device scans the recording medium. Circuitry responding to said capacitance variations provides an output signal corresponding to the information recorded. One application of such a system is to record, on both sides of a disc, video information which can be reproduced in form of a video display. Recording apparatus utilizes a scanning electron microscope to bombard successive resist-coated groove bottom regions of a recording master disc with an electron beam, controlled in intensity in accordance with signals being recorded. A stamping disc, derived from the developed recording master disc, is used to impress a replica disc of thermoplastic material (e.g., vinyl). Replica disc is coated with a conductive material (e.g., aluminum), and a layer of dielectric material is deposited over the conductive coating.

Abstract:
An engine compression fault detector includes means for detecting engine cylinder compression peaks from the starter motor current waveform. Each engine peak is compared to a dynamic peak reference which is derived from and related to the maximum cylinder peak of the engine under test. An output circuit provides a missing or low peak indication if the peak reference exceeds any cylinder peak. Overall engine compression evaluation is accomplished by comparing the difference of the average and peak starter current to a predetermined reference signal.
Abstract:
A satellite is compensated for torques caused by solar pressure on a solar panel extending from the satellite by an air core coil energized to develop a magnetic torque in opposition to the solar pressure torque. The coil is disposed generally in the periphery of the solar panel mounted externally to the satellite. The energizing current is fixed or varied by ground command or automatically in a closed loop system to compensate for variations in the earth''s magnetic field.
Abstract:
A system for removing chips cut away from a video disc master utilizes a stream of tempered air to direct the chips towards a vacuum orifice which in turn carries these chips off the disc.
Abstract:
Apparatus for testing the linearity of a circuit includes means for applying a staircase waveform to the circuit under test. The staircase waveform has known ratios between the values of one step and the remaining steps. The staircase waveform as altered by the circuit under test has unknown ratios between the one altered step and the remaining altered steps. Means are provided for determining the ratios of the one step to the remaining steps of the altered staircase waveform and for comparing these ratios to the known ratios existing in the original waveform. The difference between these ratios, if any, is determined and provides by way of a ratio comparator an indication of the linearity of the circuit under test.
Abstract:
An integrated circuit chip having circuit elements capable of relatively high power operation is encapsulated in a body of polymeric material having the form of an elongated prism. Conductors are electrically coupled to the circuit elements in the chip and extend outwardly of the body through a relatively long side thereof. A heat conducting stud is anchored in the body and is thermally coupled to the chip. The stud extends outwardly of the package through another of its relatively long sides. A heat sink may be coupled to the stud outside of the package.
