摘要: In an optical disk apparatus, the polarity of synchronization information is adaptively set to thereby improve the quality of data recording and reproduction. When inserting and recording synchronization information, an encoder of an optical disk apparatus temporarily sets the polarity of the synchronization information to either a mark or a space in accordance with a predetermined rule. A DSV which is obtained if the synchronization information is to be recorded with the polarity which has been temporarily set is computed. If the DSV which is computed is equal to or smaller than a predetermined limit value, the polarity which has been temporarily set is accepted and the synchronization information is actually recorded with the polarity. If the DSV which is computed exceeds the limit value, on the other hand, the polarity which has been temporarily set is not adopted, and the synchronization information is actually recorded with a polarity which is different from the polarity.

摘要: An optical disk drive for readily setting a recording strategy for all optical disks. A table, where optimal recording strategies are set for respective pieces of identification information about optical disks, is stored in memory of a system controller. An average recording strategy is set for an optical disk which does not have any identification information. When data are recorded on the optical disk having no identification information, test data are recorded by means of an average recording strategy and another strategy determined by changing the average strategy, and a strategy—by means of which a rate of detection of a synchronizing signal assumes a predetermined value or more—is set as an optimal strategy. The rate of detection of the synchronizing signal of the mark and the rate of detection of the synchronizing signal of the space are computed, and the results of computation are compared with the predetermined value.

摘要: An optical disk apparatus capable of adjusting a focus servo and the like by precisely detecting a jitter amount. Light reflected from an optical disk is converted into an RF signal in an optical pickup and amplified by an RF amplifier before being supplied to an equalizer. The boost amount of the equalizer is set to zero during adjustment and set to a predetermined finite value (e.g., +20 dB) during normal recording and reproducing. By first setting the boost amount to zero, the delay characteristics of the RF signal from 3T to 11T are flattened such that an accurate jitter amount can be determined based on the integrated value of the phase differences of 3T to 11T, thereby allowing the optical pickup to be adjusted so as to minimize the jitter amount.

摘要: An optical disk device which drives an HD-DVD or the like. When recording or reproducing data with respect to an optical disk of HD-DVD, the address information is demodulated by an address decoding circuit and is supplied to a system controller. The system controller performs error checking using the CRC technique. When a resulting CRC value does not correspond to CRC bits, the system controller regards a bit in which the number of waves in wobbles having the same phase is not four, which is a predetermined value, as an error bit, and performs bit data replacement with respect to the error bit. Specifically, the system controller searches for a combination of bit values by which a resulting CRC value matches the CRC bits, thereby performing error correction. At this time, the system controller tries the data value replacement preferentially using a combination of bit values by which the address is advanced by one address from the immediately previous address which is fixed among all the possible combinations with respect to the error bits.

摘要: In an optical disk of HD-DVD, data is recorded in both grooves and lands. A groove track includes its own data region called a groove (G) track address system formed therein and a land track includes its own data region called a land (L) track address system formed therein. One bit of address data is composed of four redundant wobble waves. When only three or two of the four wobble waves can be detected, an error is determined. When an error is determined in tracing of a groove track, bit data of the L track address system is used to correct the error. When an error is determined in tracing of a land track, bit data of the G track address system is used to correct the error.

摘要: An optical disk apparatus for suppressing a DSV and performing R-OPC. An encoding/decoding circuit inserts a synchronization information item to a head of a synchronous frame once when data are recorded on an optical disk. First, the encoding/decoding circuit inserts synchronization information as a mark or a space on the basis of a DSV. When the polarity of the first synchronization information item is a mark, the polarity of a next synchronization information item is also set on the basis of the DSV. When the polarity of the first synchronization information is a space, the polarity of the next synchronization information is set to a mark. R-OPC is performed at a timing when the polarity of the synchronization information is a mark.

摘要: An apparatus for use with a recordable compact disk having an optically discernible pregroove formed thereon to provide a multiturn spiral track along which data pits are to be formed. Each pregroove turn is partly wobbled to represent addresses. Since wobble detection is easy to be impeded by track eccentricity with respect to the axis of disk rotation, a pair of compensator circuits are connected one to each output of a composite photodetector for eliminating from the photodetector output signal a frequency component due to track eccentricity. Each compensator circuit comprises a variable gain amplifier circuit, and a feedback loop for varying the amplifier gain in inverse proportion to the amplitude of the frequency component due to track eccentricity.
