    摘要: A magnetic recording medium includes a non-magnetic substrate; a soft magnetic layer which is formed on the non-magnetic substrate and which includes projected parts arranged on the surface thereof and recessed parts surrounding each of the projected part; and a ferromagnetic layer which is formed on the soft magnetic layer and which includes projected parts and recessed parts reflecting the projected parts and the recessed parts of the soft magnetic layer. Further the magnetic recording medium includes recording areas which have perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and ferromagnetism, and which are formed of the projected parts of the ferromagnetic layer and separated magnetically from their surroundings. A method for manufacture of the magnetic recording medium includes forming a soft magnetic layer including of projected parts arranged regularly on the surface thereof and recessed parts surrounding each projected part; and forming a ferromagnetic layer having perpendicular magnetic anisotropy on the soft magnetic layer.

    摘要: There is provided a photodetector which has the function of measuring the intensity distribution of light with a simple and inexpensive construction and which has a selectivity for a measured wavelength band. The photodetector comprises a transparent semiconductor electrode part and counter electrode part on each of which a sensitizing dye is applied, and a buffer layer sandwiched therebetween, the counter electrode part or the transparent semiconductor electrode part being divided into a plurality of electrode cells. Thus, it is possible to realize a compact photodetector which carries out a photoelectric transfer using part of light in a wavelength band absorbed into the sensitizing dye and which has a wavelength selectively.

    摘要: According to an embodiment, a light deflecting element includes a dielectric body, a first electrode, and a second electrode. The second electrode is configured to sandwich the dielectric body with the first electrode so as to apply a voltage to the dielectric body. The second electrode includes orthogonal portions that are substantially orthogonal to an incident direction of a light beam passing through the dielectric body, parallel portions that are substantially parallel to the incident direction of the light beam. The orthogonal portions and the parallel portions are formed in an alternate manner on the light beam incident side of the dielectric body. The second electrode includes a linear sloping portion that slopes in a direction toward intersection with the incident direction of the light beam. The orthogonal portions, the parallel portions, and the linear sloping portion are formed integrally.

    摘要: According to one embodiment, a bit patterned medium includes a substrate, and a magnetic recording layer disposed above the substrate and including patterns of protrusions. Each of the protrusions contains a plurality of crystal grains. An average distance between the crystal grains is 0.5 to 3.0 nm in each of the protrusions. The protrusions include first protrusions each having a length of 1 μm or more in a radial direction of the medium and second protrusions each having a length in the radial direction shorter than the length of the first protrusion in the radial direction. Each of the first protrusions has a nucleation field Hn for magnetization reversal and a coercive force Hc satisfying the inequalities, Hn≧1.5 kOe and 0.5 kOe≦Hc−Hn≦1.5 kOe.
