    摘要: The input signal of one of the plural channels is converted by a converting circuit into frequency components which are separated into tonal components and noise components in a signal comment separating circuit. The tonal components and the signal components are encoded by a tonal component encoding circuit and a noise component encoding circuit, respectively. The amount of bytes allocated to the noise components in the respective channels is determined by a byte allocation circuit based upon time changes of the sum of the scale factors of the respective channels.

    摘要: A signal encoding method and apparatus by which a high encoding efficiency may be achieved by encoding tonal components of plural channels by exploiting channel-to-channel characteristics. The encoding of separately encoding first signals of plural channels is selectively changed over to the encoding of encoding the first signals of plural channels in common or vice versa depending on the results of detection of characteristics of the first signals of plural channels. The compression ratio may be improved if the first signals are encoded in common, while ill effects due to encoding in common may be avoided by separately encoding the first signals of plural channels.

    摘要: Apparatus for recording an information signal as bit-compressed digital data. The apparatus comprises a bit compressor and a recording system. The bit compressor receives the information signal as digital data. The digital data include bits, and the bits include redundant bits. The bit compressor compresses the digital data by removing only the redundant bits from the digital data to generate the bit-compressed digital data at a variable bit rate. The redundant bits are bits that result in a quantizing noise level lower than an allowed noise level at which the quantizing noise is imperceptible to a human auditory sense. The allowable noise level is determined by a masking threshold and a minimum audibility limit. The recording system receives the bit-compressed digital data from the bit compressor and records the bit-compressed data on a recording medium.
