摘要: Dry eye treatment apparatus and methods are described herein which generally includes a patch or strip affixed to the skin of the upper and/or lower eyelids to deliver heat or other forms of energy, pressure, drugs, moisture, etc. (alone or in combination) to the one or more meibomian glands contained within the underlying skin. The treatment strip or strips include one or more strips configured to adhere to an underlying region of skin in proximity to one or both eyes of a subject such that the one or more strips allow for the subject to blink naturally without restriction from the one or more strips. Moreover, the one or more strips may be configured to emit energy to the underlying region of skin and where the one or more strips are shaped to follow a location of one or more meibomiam glands contained within the underlying region of skin.

摘要: The invention concerns the manufacture of personal care articles consisting of compresses having a cooling effect by swelling with water which are presented individually in vacuum packaging. According to the invention, successive doses of powder comprising absorbent particles are placed in grooves formed by elastic deformation in a lower sheet made of water-permeable textile material, which is continuously unwound, and covered with an upper sheet, which is continuously unwound at the same time as the lower sheet. The lower sheet is then heat-welded in the intervals between adjacent grooves thus isolating the grooves from each other. Successive compartments each containing a dose of the powder are then enclosed in each groove by heat-welding the sheets along transverse weld lines across the width of the moving sheet assembly.

摘要: The present invention provides a device and method for delivering thermal therapy about a percutaneous access site while also permitting visual and physical examination of the access site. The device comprises a semi-circumferential shaped housing having a top wall, a bottom wall, and a side wall. The top wall, the bottom wall, and the side wall define a cavity with a fluid tight bladder disposed within the cavity. The semi-circumferential shaped housing has an aperture formed in the housing and a straight edge portion along the circumference of the housing. The device delivers thermal therapy to percutaneous arterial, venous, laparoscopic, and other access procedures sites by allowing visual and physical examination of the access site through the aperture and comfortable placement of the device's straight edge portion against a bend or joint of the patient's body.

摘要: The present invention relates to a heating and/or cooling assembly such as a heat pad. The assembly includes a plurality of modules articulated together by connection means so that the assembly can be manipulated by a user to adopt a desired profile. At least one of the modules contains a thermal store in the form of a solid, liquid or gel responsive to heating or cooling externally applied to the assembly so that the solid, liquid or gel is heated or cooled, respectively, and remains in a heated or cooled state for a prolonged period of time after the externally applied heating or cooling is removed.

摘要: Technologies are generally provided for a medical sponge configured to reduce a temperature at a surgical site. Endothermic reactants may be incorporated with the medical sponge to reduce a temperature at the surgical site in response to absorption of fluids. The sponge may be placed at a surgical site, and as the sponge absorbs fluids, the endothermic reactants may become hydrated. Hydration of the endothermic elements may induce an endothermic reaction, resulting in reduction of a temperature of the surrounding surgical site. The endothermic elements may be inserted within semi-permeable pouches that may be layered with the sponge. Additionally, endothermic elements may be inserted within hollow semi-permeable fibers and woven together to form the sponge. Hemostatic agents, antimicrobial agents, and analgesics may also be integrated with the medical sponge to prevent and treat other conditions experienced at the surgical site such as inflammation, pain, and infection.
