A therapeutic pad is used in footwear which has a liquid absorbent to prevent liquid leakage in the event the sealed envelope of the pad is ruptured. The footwear includes a pair of compartments which substantially surround the foot cavity for receiving the therapeutic pad.

A method and apparatus for imparting continuous passive motion to one or more joints, ligaments, or tendons is disclosed. The apparatus has a housing, an actuator, and a flexion/extension assembly. In preferred form, a main flexion cable links the actuator to a joint support member pivotally attached to flexion/extension assembly. Reciprocating motion of the main flexion cable causes the support member to oscillate. A restoring force, preferably a second main cable cooperative linked to the actuator, is present so as to urge the support member to its initial position. The path of motion of the support member can be altered, while the apparatus is in operation, by a cable deflecting assembly. By controlling the degree of cable deflection, the degree of support member motion can be altered. Variations to the apparatus include providing for multiple flexion cables, each linked to the main flexion cable, and multiple cable deflecting assemblies; a cable deflecting assembly associated with the second main cable for controlling the degree of extension; and a heat source affecting the area surrounding the flexion/extension assembly.

A patient bathing apparatus includes an upper and lower semi-cylindrical shell, wherein the shell is mounted to a matrix of nozzles respectively within each shell, the nozzles in fluid communication with a fluid source to direct a bathing spray onto a patient. A heater assembly is mounted at a rear distal end of the shells to direct heated drying air onto the patient subsequent to a bathing event. Valve means is provided within the lower shell to cease flow of water thereto to provide for spraying of a lower portion of an individual patient in situations limited to spraying a respective top or bottom surface of the patient only.

The foot massage device is in the general form of an elongated tubular body member that has a plurality of pressure point members disposed on its outer surface. The tubular body is wide enough so that both feet of a person can be applied to the device at the same time. The tubular body has a left end portion, a central portion and a right end portion. The left and right end portions each have a convex outer surface along their longitudinal dimension and the central portion has a substantially constant outer diameter. In the preferred embodiment, the foot massage device has a permanently closed right end and the left end has a removable plug or cap so that either hot or cold fluid may be placed in the hollow tubular body to give the user beneficial results therefrom.

This device is constructed in such a manner that a pump for suction and exhaust of air by an electric motor and a crank is provided with a funnel type cup by means of a detachable hose, and an opening portion of the cup is brought into contact with the part of the human body under pressure airtightly. Massage stimulation is performed by the air suction causing the swollen surface of the body and by the air exhaust (discharge) causing the pressure on the surface of the body. Moreover, the cup is provided with an electric heating illuminant to increase the massage stimulation effect by heated air or an electrode for generating low frequency pulse signal.

A compression sleeve for applying compressive pressures against a patient's limb from a source of pressurized fluid. The sleeve has a plurality of separate fluid pressure chambers arranged longitudinally along the sleeve, and a sizer portion located intermediate a pair of adjoining pressure chambers to permit adjustment of the sleeve to limbs of varying sizes. The sizer portion may comprise a ventilation chamber having a plurality of openings for ventilating the patient's limb with air during use of the sleeve.

A unitized and easily transportable therapeutic bath assembly for the limbs of a race horse or other animals, including humans, consisting of a fiber-glass tub body having a cubical tank adapted to receive one or more of the animal's limbs, for example, the legs. An evaporator unit is located in a recess of a tank wall adjacent an enclosed compartment housing a refrigeration unit and circulating pump which is respectively coupled to the evaporator unit and tank. Also, an air compressor located in the enclosed compartment is coupled to the tank for providing agitation of a cooled liquid circulated through the tank.
