摘要: The presently disclosed subject matter provides a biomimetic organ model, and methods of its production and use. In one exemplary embodiment, the biomimetic organ model can be a multi-layer model including a at least two microchannels and at least one chamber slab with at least one membrane coated with cells disposed between at least one microchannel and the at least one chamber slab. In another exemplary embodiment, the biomimetic organ disease model can be a five-layer model including a first and second microchannel with a membrane-gel layer-membrane coated or encompassing cells disposed between the microchannels. In certain embodiments, at least one device can be coupled to the biomimetic organ model that delivers an agent to at least one microchannel.

摘要: A training device simulating ablation of a disc space between adjacent vertebral bodies. A heating apparatus includes an upper surface. A lower plate is provided on the upper surface of the heating apparatus. An upper substantially transparent plate is fixed by a frame above the lower plate. The upper plate is etched with an outline of a vertebral body. Fixed in position proximate the lower frame, the upper plate holds a biological material compressed between the plates. Tool-holding clamps, attached to the frame, are positioned to insert a surgical tool, in a proper location and orientation, into the biological material between the upper and lower plates.

摘要: A method of manufacturing a three dimensional bio-model from medical image data is described. The method comprises: identifying a skin layer in the medical image data; determining a thickness of the skin layer; generating three dimensional model data from the medical image data, the three dimensional model data comprising an indication of a synthetic skin layer, the synthetic skin layer comprising a surface layer and a backing layer, wherein a combined thickness of the surface layer and the backing layer is determined from the thickness of the skin layer; and three dimensional printing the three dimensional model data to provide a three dimensional bio-model.

摘要: Surgical simulators and methods associated with the same are provided. In one aspect, a surgical simulator includes a rib cage including a plurality of ribs, internal tissue positionable within the rib cage, and external tissue adapted to cover at least a portion of the rib cage. In another aspect, a method of manufacturing a surgical simulator includes forming a rib cage including a plurality of ribs, positioning internal tissue within the rib cage, and at least partially covering the rib cage with external tissue. In a further aspect, a method of modifying biologic tissue for use with a surgical simulator is provided.

摘要: A model for anatomical training includes a clear thermoplastic elastomer matrix formed with at least one contoured surface that simulates at least a portion of a human body. The visibly clear thermoplastic elastomer matrix provides visible needle tracks upon needle penetration that may be fused closed upon heating the thermoplastic elastomer matrix. The model includes at least a portion of a vertebral column with a synthetic spinal sheath passing through a portion of the vertebral column, the synthetic spinal sheath providing tactile feedback upon needle penetration that simulates the tactile feedback of a needle penetrating a natural human spinal sheath.

摘要: A surgical simulation assembly is provided for simulating realistic surgery on animal organs or human cadavers. The surgical simulation assembly comprises a generally flat tray having a central indentation for receiving an organ, at least one drainage aperture and at least one indented trough extending from the central indentation for receiving at least one tube. The tray is assembled with a simulator heart and lungs prepped for connection to a variable speed double action air pump assembly that creates both positive pressure and a vacuum on the heart to simulate a beating heart. The tray is supported on a basket having a lower containment portion for containing fluid waste collected during the simulated surgery. The basket is elevated by risers over a base designed to support the assembly.
