A surface spacing is selected so that a collimated beam input to the beam compressor is output as a collimated beam. In some examples, beam compressors are situated to compress a laser beam stack that includes beams associated with a plurality of laser diodes. Beam compression ratios are typically selected so that a compressed beam stack focused into an optical waveguide has a numerical aperture corresponding to the numerical aperture of the optical waveguide.

摘要: A skew compensation apparatus and method. In an optical system that uses optical signals, skew may be generated as the optical signals are processed from an input optical signal to at least two electrical signals representative of the phase-differentiated optical signals. A compensation of the skew is provided by including an optical delay line in the path of the optical signal that does not suffer the skew (e.g., that serves as the time base for the skew measurement). The optical delay line introduces a delay Tskew equal to the delay suffered by the optical signal that is not taken as the time base. The two signals are thereby corrected for skew.

摘要: Systems, devices, and methods for optical waveguides that are well-suited for use in wearable heads-up displays (WHUDs) are described. An optical device comprises an optical waveguide including a volume of optically transparent material having a first longitudinal surface positioned opposite a second longitudinal surface across a width of the volume, an in-coupler, a liquid crystal out-coupler, and a controller to modulate a refractive index of the liquid crystal out-coupler. Light is in-coupled into the waveguide and is propagated along a length of the waveguide by total internal reflection between the longitudinal surfaces before being out-coupled by the liquid crystal out-coupler on a path that is dependent on the modulated refractive index of the liquid crystal out-coupler. In this way, light signals can be steered to create an image and/or to move an exit pupil of an image. WHUDs that employ such optical waveguides are also described.

A tapered portion is configured to interface the neck portion to the flared portion.

摘要: To provide an optical transmitter module with simplified control of a voltage to be applied to an optical modulator. An optical transmitter module includes a semiconductor laser for irradiating a laser beam; a demultiplexer for branching the laser beam to output branched light beams; optical modulators for modulating an optical amplitude of each of the branched light beams into a first optical amplitude or a second optical amplitude, depending on an input level at two levels; and a multiplexer for multiplexing output light beams from the optical modulators. The optical transmitter module may include optical waveguides for connecting the optical modulators and the multiplexer, and the optical waveguides may include a first optical waveguide for causing a first phase difference and a second optical waveguide for causing a second phase difference different from the first phase difference.
