摘要: Apparatus for controlling ink in an ink jet printer includes a print head of the type wherein ink forms a meniscus above a nozzle bore and spreads along an upper surface of the print head. The print head includes a substrate having an upper surface; an ink delivery channel below the substrate; and a nozzle bore through the substrate and opening below the substrate into the ink delivery channel to establish an ink flow path. A source of pressurized ink communicates with the ink delivery channel such that ink tends to form a meniscus on the upper surface of the heater. A resistive heater lies about at least a portion of the nozzle bore, the heater having an upper surface which is coplanar with a surrounding portion of the upper surface of the substrate, whereby the print head is flat in regions along an ink-to-solid contact line of the meniscus.

摘要: A continuous ink jet printer emits a continuous stream of ink from an ink stream generator. The stream breaks up into a plurality of droplets at a position spaced from the ink stream generator. A stream deflector includs a control surface positioned adjacent to the stream between the ink stream generator and the position whereat the stream breaks up into droplets such that the stream contacts the control surface and is thereby deflected due to a gain in free energy caused by physical contact between the ink in the stream and the control surface. Apparatus may be provided to modulate the position of the control surface to change the direction of the stream between a print direction and a non-print direction.

摘要: A method of making a fully self-aligned, planar, two phase charge coupled device comprises the steps of first forming upon a semiconductive substrate a uniform insulative layer; then implanting ions of a second conductivity type into the substrate, then patterning closely spaced strips of a first conductive layer on the insulative layer, then further implanting ions of a second conductivity type in the regions between said first conductive strips, then depositing uniformly a second conductive layer electrically isolated from the first conductive strips, then entirely removing by uniform planarization those portions of the second conductive layer disposed over regions of the first conductive strips so as to form closely spaced, coplanar, alternating first and second electrically isolated conductive strips, then electrically connecting alternate pairs of strips by a planar process of depositing and oxidizing a conductive material.

摘要: A fully integrated electro-optic page-scanner comprises an optically transparent waveguide made from an electro-optic polymer, and an electrode structure including a linear array of electrically-addressable, spaced, parallel electrodes for selectively altering the refractive index across pixel-sized portions of the polymeric waveguide. According to the invention, the addressable electrodes are disposed on a photoconductive substrate which facilitates poling of the polymer waveguide to rander it electro-optic in nature. During the poling process, the photoconductive substrate is made electrically conductive by flood illumination, while a uniform electric field is established between the substrate and a transparent electrode which overlies the waveguide layer, opposite the addressable electrodes. Preferably, the photoconductive substrate comprises undoped silicon which enables certain electrode-addressing circuitry to be integrated within the scanner structure.

摘要: A continuous printer system includes a jet control element, associated with each nozzle bore of an array of nozzle bores, which is selectively actuated to form or steer or form and steer print drops from a liquid stream emitted from the associated nozzle bore. A memory element associated with the inkjet printer is selectively loaded during a printing operation with data that modifies the subsequent actuation of each of the jet control elements to form or steer or form and steer print drops that print pixels on a receiver in a second regularly spaced pixel grid, the second regularly spaced pixel grid having a second spatial density of pixels extending in a direction perpendicular to a travel path of the receiver that is different when compared to a first spatial density of a first regularly spaced pixel grid.

摘要: A continuous printing system includes a printhead and a controller. The printhead includes a nozzle and a jet control element including a continuous heater element positioned to surround the nozzle. A plurality of three or more electrical contacts is in electrical communication with the continuous heater element and define a plurality of three or more continuous heater element portions that are actuatable with sufficient independence so as to control jet steering. The number of the continuous heater element portions equals the number of electrical contacts. A controller is configured to apply a waveform to at least one of the plurality of three or more electrical contacts to affect at least one of the plurality of independently actuatable continuous heater element portions.
