Abstract:
A method for applying a foam composition to a paper web is provided. Specifically, a foam applicator is positioned adjacent to a surface of the web. The foam applicator comprises an extrusion head defining an extrusion channel through which the foam composition is capable of flowing. The foam applicator further defines a dispensing slot through which the foam composition is capable of exiting the foam applicator. The method also includes flowing the foam composition through the extrusion channel of the foam applicator. The foam composition is impinged with at least one gaseous stream (e.g., air stream) to fragment or break up gaseous bubbles contained therein.
Abstract:
Scented decorative grasses having an appearance and/or texture simulating the appearance and/or texture of cloth are disclosed, as are methods for making such scented decorative grasses from materials wherein at least one surface of the material is modified to simulate the appearance and/or texture of cloth.
Abstract:
A wall mural painting kit for painting a mural on a wall or other flat surface. The kit has multiple pattern transfer sheets. Each pattern transfer sheet has first and second opposite faces. A layer of transfer material is on the first face and a pattern of a mural is on the second face. One or more alignment markings is provided on the second face for use in placing said sheet in correct position on said wall or other flat surface. The kit may include a supply of adhesive tape having a non-aggressive adhesive. The tape is marked at regular intervals along the length of the tape so that the tape may be torn or cut from said supply in appropriately-sized segments to allow each pattern transfer sheet to be affixed to a wall or other flat surface with a desired number of said segments.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to novel thiol stabilised gold nanoparticles for decorative uses. Methods of their preparation, compositions comprising them and uses of gold nanoparticles and compositions are also described.
Abstract:
Glitter is applied to cylindrical articles by forcing them through a pot of clear lacquer, squeegeeing the coating to a desired thickness, and then immediately passing the articles through a pot of glitter. The articles then pass through a vacuum tube, which removes the excess glitter for reuse.
Abstract:
A system for laying down stripes of solution on substrate is described. The substrate preferably comprises a web of material set on a backing roller passed by a specially configured die. The die includes at least a mouth with lips extending beyond a face or body of the die. The die is adapted to avoid fluid leakage therefrom. Upper and lower portions of the die defining the mouth are preferably substantially flat and mirror images of each other. The lips are preferably placed in close proximity to the material on which the solution is to be deposited. Solution passing through the mouth of the die is directed to the webbing and deposited in a substantially constant thickness stripe or band. Often, the solution comprises a reagent-type solution. The solution coating is typically dried onto the substrate. Dried product may then be used in reagent test strop production.
Abstract:
A dispensing system and method for dispensing material onto a substrate. The dispensing system includes a frame, a support, coupled to the frame, that supports the substrate at a dispensing position in the dispensing system, and a dispensing head, coupled to the frame, that dispenses the material onto the substrate. The dispensing head includes a motor unit having a first motor coupled to an output drive mechanism, and a dispensing unit, removably coupled to the motor unit, having a material outlet from which the dispensing material is dispensed, the dispensing unit having a dispensing mechanism coupled to the material outlet and coupled to the output drive mechanism of the motor unit such that operation of the first motor causes the dispensing mechanism to dispense material through the outlet. The dispensing head may be controlled for deposition of dots of material having diameters smaller than a dispensing needle of the dispensing unit.
Abstract:
A system and method for applying a digital image to a metal container. The method includes retrieving a digital image using a computer, adjusting the digital image according to a desired location on a metal container, printing the digital image onto heat transfer paper using dye sublimation ink, and pressing the printed image onto the desired surface of the container.
Abstract:
The manufacture and use of multilayer functional thin-film devices, such as solid-state thin-film batteries, including lithium thin-film batteries on unconventional substrate geometries integrated into multifunctional materials is described. The unconventional geometries may include fibers, ribbons, and strips, which may be woven together or held together in matrices of material to form structural or other multifunctional composites with, for example, integrated power.
Abstract:
Nanoparticles are coated using thick-film techniques with a catalyst to promote the growth of carbon nanotubes thereon. In one example, alumina nanoparticles are coated with a copper catalyst. Such nanoparticles can be selectively deposited onto a substrate to create a field emission cathode, which can then be utilized within field emission devices.
