Abstract: An example method is provided in one example embodiment and includes receiving an assignment request from a core node in a network to establish a tunnel for user plane traffic; forwarding first parameters to a controller of an enterprise network, wherein the first parameters include a tunnel identifier and a network address associated with the core node; receiving an assignment response; and forwarding second parameters to the core node, wherein the second parameters include a tunnel identifier and a network address associated with the controller. In some instances, the assignment request can be a request to establish a tunnel for user plane data traffic. In some instances, the assignment request can be a request to establish a tunnel for user plane voice traffic.

Abstract: An example method is provided in one example embodiment and includes intercepting a setup request for a session via a small cell network portion associated with a wide area network (WAN) instance, wherein the WAN instance comprises the small cell network portion and an enterprise network portion and wherein the small cell network portion and the enterprise network portion are interconnected to a service provider network; classifying the session to a particular WAN priority queue, wherein a plurality of WAN priority queues are configured for the WAN instance; determining whether the particular WAN priority queue has available bandwidth for the session; allocating bandwidth for the particular WAN priority queue if the particular WAN priority queue has available bandwidth; and permitting the session to be established if the particular WAN priority queue has available bandwidth.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for providing access to wireless networks may include receiving, by a wireless network access provider from a user device, a request to access a wireless network. The method may include obtaining data representing a policy applicable to the access request, sending the access request, augmented with the policy, to an identity provider associated with the user and having no pre-existing relationship with the access provider, and receiving, from the identity provider, an access request response indicating whether or not the policy is met. The method may include communicating, to the wireless device, an indication that the access request has been accepted, if the policy is met, or an indication that the access request has been rejected, if the policy is not met. The access provider and identity provider may be members of an identity and access federation that communicate over a dynamically established secure connection.

Abstract: A method of controlling performance of a wireless device is performed by a node that is in electronic communication with a cellular network. The node includes a processor, a non-transitory memory, and a network interface. The method includes receiving a performance value characterizing a performance of a communication channel between a wireless device and a wireless access point. In some implementations, the wireless device and the cellular network are associated with different radio access technologies (RATs). The method includes determining whether the performance value breaches a performance criterion for the wireless device. The method includes adjusting a first amount of data transmitted to the wireless device from a base station of the cellular network and a second amount of data transmitted to the wireless device from the wireless access point. In some implementations, the combined first and second amounts of data satisfy the performance criterion for the wireless device.

Abstract: A mobility management entity (MME) controls an enterprise fabric. The MME receives from a mobile device via a cellular network a request to initiate an attach procedure. In response, the MME acquires from the mobile device a unique equipment identifier of the mobile device. The MME generates an enterprise identity for the mobile device based on the unique equipment identifier, and registers the enterprise identity in the enterprise fabric. The MME signals to a user plane function of the cellular network that the mobile device has been registered, to trigger the user plane function to acquire an Internet Protocol (IP) address of the mobile device based on the enterprise identity. The MME receives from the user plane function the acquired IP address. The MME sends to the mobile device, through the cellular network, an attach accept message that includes the acquired IP address for use by the mobile device.

In various implementations, the method includes generating a characteristic indicator that characterizes a device type based on communications associated with a first device of the device type. In various implementations, the method includes determining, based on communications associated with the first device, a performance indicator that indicates a performance of the first device. In various implementations, the method includes synthesizing an anomaly indicator as a function of the performance indicator in relation to the characteristic indicator.

Abstract: An example method is provided in one example embodiment and may include receiving a request from a user equipment (UE) to access a wireless access network, wherein the UE is currently accessing one or more other wireless networks; determining by a Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) whether a subscriber associated with the UE is authorized to access the wireless access network based, at least in part, on a profile for the subscriber; and communicating one of a wireless access rejection and a wireless access acceptance to the UE based on the determination. In some instances, the determining can include recovering the profile for the subscriber associated with the UE from a Subscriber Profile Repository (SPR) using an International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) for the subscriber.

Abstract: A serving gateway updates location information for a mobile device based on information in an update bearer request. The serving gateway receives a first update bearer request for a mobile device. The first update bearer request includes a first address associated with a micro cellular service base station to which the mobile device is in communication. The micro cellular service base station is associated with a physical location. The serving gateway sends a location notification to a location server, indicating that the mobile device is physically near the micro cellular service base station. The serving gateway receives a second update bearer request for the mobile device including an address associated with a macro cellular service base station. The serving gateway sends another location notification to the location server indicating that the mobile device is no longer at the physical location of the micro cellular service base station.

Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling the power of small cells in a coverage area includes obtaining signal strength measurements of wireless signals received from a plurality of small cells in a defined coverage area by identifying signal strength at a plurality of locations near the perimeter of the coverage area, and determining a revised transmit power of the small cells based on the determined signal strength (a) to maintain a minimum threshold of received signal while reducing the average power within the coverage area, or (b) to reduce leakage outside the perimeter of the coverage area relative to a desired threshold.
