An exemplary electric drive unit includes an electric motor configured to provide an electric motor torque; an input differential configured to split the electric motor torque into a first path and a second path; a final drive gear on each path; a pinion gear on each path; and a rear transfer shaft assembly and a front transfer shaft assembly on each path. Further, each pinion gear is configured to transfer torque to a respective rear transfer shaft assembly and a respective front transfer shaft assembly, and the respective rear transfer and front transfer shaft assemblies are configured to transfer torque to the respective final drive gear.

Abstract: A transmission system has a housing including a wall and a gear support extending from the wall. The gear support has an outer surface and an inner surface defining a passage. The outer surface includes a seal receiving portion and a seal support axially spaced from the seal receiving portion. A seal is positioned about the gear support at the seal receiving portion. A sleeve is arranged on the outer surface of the gear support between the wall and the seal and a pump drive gear is mounted on the gear support and is supported by the sleeve. The pump drive gear includes an outer toothed surface, an inner surface, and a bushing arranged on the inner surface, the bushing extending about the sleeve.

Abstract: A P2 transmission and engine assembly includes a transverse mounted transmission having: a transmission first end and a transmission second end oppositely positioned with respect to the transmission first end; and a transmission gearbox portion having a first cavity positioned at the second end. A torque converter is positioned at the transmission first end. An electric motor is positioned within the first cavity and is rotatably connected to the torque converter using a turbine shaft. A one-way clutch is connected to the turbine shaft and releasably connects the turbine shaft to the torque converter. The one-way clutch when disengaged disconnects the torque converter from the turbine shaft.

Abstract: A drive torque transfer case is provided. The transfer case includes an input shaft, an output shaft, a gear assembly coupled to the input shaft, and a range clutch assembly coupled to the output shaft. The range clutch assembly includes a clutch member and a multi-piston actuator configured to receive a pressurized transmission fluid for selectively axially translating the clutch member to engage a component of the gear assembly for transmitting a drive torque from the input shaft to the output shaft. The multi-piston actuator includes an internal piston having a first annular surface area A1 and a third annular surface area A3, and an external piston having a second annular surface area A2 and a fourth annular surface area A4. The A1 and A2 are in hydraulic communication with a first hydraulic chamber, and A3 and A4 are in hydraulic communication with a second hydraulic chamber.

Abstract: A transmission sealed low leak controls system includes a controls system having a first fluid for operation of the controls system provided by a first pump at a first pressure. A transmission input shaft is provided. A planetary gear set is connected to the transmission input shaft by a clutch assembly. A second pump provides a second fluid different from the first fluid for cooling and lubrication of the at least one clutch assembly at a second pressure lower than the first pressure. A torque converter is connected to the transmission input shaft. The second pump further provides the second fluid to the torque converter.

Abstract: A torque transferring transmission-drive system includes a first friction surface. A second friction surface is directed toward the first friction surface. A reaction plate is positioned between the first friction surface and the second friction surface. A piston is actuated by a fluid pressure to displace the first friction surface toward the second friction surface, frictionally engaging the reaction plate between the first friction surface and the second friction surface. At least one strap spring in a clutch engaged condition elastically compresses to allow the reaction plate to be frictionally engaged between the first friction surface and the second friction surface, and in a clutch disengaged condition the at least one strap spring elastically expands to create a clearance between the reaction plate and each of the first friction surface and the second friction surface.

Abstract: A passive opening transmission clutch system includes a backing plate having multiple tab slots, each of the tab slots having a tapered wall. A first reaction plate has multiple first tapered spline teeth oriented transverse to a plane of the first reaction plate. The first tapered spline teeth are positioned at least partially in individual ones of the tab slots in a clutch disengaged condition. The first tapered spline teeth when displaced further into the tab slots and toward the backing plate define a clutch engaged condition. A first friction plate is in frictional contact with the first reaction plate in the clutch engaged condition, the first friction plate when rotated generating a rotational force on the first reaction plate. The rotational force acts against the first tapered spline teeth to induce the first reaction plate to slidably move away from the backing plate.
