    摘要: The performance of a Single Code Word (SCW) design with low complexity MMSE receiver & rank prediction is similar to the Multiple Code Word (MCW) design with successive interference cancellation (SIC). A method of rank prediction comprises calculating MIMO channel matrices corresponding to layer transmissions for each tone, calculating signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) for each tone based on the MIMO channel matrices, mapping the SNR for each tone to generate effective SNRs for each layer transmission, selecting a highest packet format (PF) with an SNR threshold less than the effective SNR for each layer transmission, maximizing an over-all spectral efficiency based on the selected highest packet formats for each layer transmission, and selecting a rank based on maximizing an over-all spectral efficiency.

    摘要: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate cycling across antennas for channel quality information (CQI) computation and data transmission in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication environment. Pilots can be obtained by a wireless terminal. Further, virtual antennas that can be supported by a channel can be identified based upon an analysis of the pilots. Moreover, CQI computations can be effectuated for each of the supported virtual antennas; thereafter, the CQI data can be sent to a base station for data transmission scheduling. Additionally, the base station can schedule transmission based upon the CQI data and/or fairness considerations. When scheduled, data transmission can occur by cycling across the supported virtual antennas.

    摘要: Techniques to more efficiently transmit pilot and signaling on the uplink in an OFDM system. With subband multiplexing, M usable subbands in the system are partitioned into Q disjoint groups of subbands. Each subband group may be assigned to a different terminal for uplink pilot transmission. Multiple terminals may transmit simultaneously on their assigned subbands. The transmit power for the pilot may be scaled higher to attain the same total pilot energy even though S instead of M subbands are used for pilot transmission by each terminal. Pilot transmissions from the terminals are received, and a channel estimate is derived for each terminal based on the pilot received on the assigned subbands. The channel estimate comprises a response for additional subbands not included in the assigned group. Subband multiplexing may also be used for uplink signaling transmission.

    摘要: Techniques for selecting serving sectors and performing handoff for a terminal on the forward and reverse links are described. The terminal may obtain pilot measurements for pilots transmitted on the forward link and may update an active set based on the pilot measurements. The terminal may send a transmission (e.g., for pilot, signaling, etc.) on the reverse link and may receive channel quality information indicative of reverse link channel quality for the terminal at multiple sectors in the active set. The transmission may include pilot, and the channel quality information from each sector may include a pilot carrier-over-thermal ratio (pCoT) determined by that sector based on the pilot. The terminal may select a serving sector based on the channel quality information, interference information, and/or other information and may send a request for handoff (e.g., via a signaling message an/or an access probe) to the selected serving sector.

    摘要: Methods and apparatuses for decoding codewords received over a MIMO channel are provided. According to one aspect of the disclosure, a cost function is computed for each constellation point of an Mth rank or spatial layer, and Ncand of those constellation points having minimum cost are preserved as candidate points, where Ncand is a parameter specified to the decoding algorithm. In addition, a cost function may be computed for all possible transitions from the Ncand candidate points of the Mth rank to all possible constellation points of the (M−1)th spatial layer, and Ncand of those transitions having minimum cost are preserved as candidate points. The process is repeated for all spatial layers, resulting in the identification of Ncand candidate codewords and their associated cost functions.

    摘要: A MIMO communication system is adapted to encode multiple data streams at the same adaptable rate. Accordingly, the set of all possible modulation/rate combinations to all modulations with common rates is decreased thus resulting in the reduction of the number of possible packet formats carrying the data streams. Rate prediction is made more error-resilient, in part, due to the averaging over all information rates. Furthermore, the signaling overhead of the packets is reduced. Therefore, the tradeoff between the desired transmission rate granularity on the one hand, and robustness/signaling overhead on the other hand, is controlled by adjusting the coding rate.
