摘要: A method of treating wood chips or saw dust with an enzyme formulation, prior to refining, in order to reduce the total extractives content of the wood chips or sawdust and to modify the wood structure is described herein. The wood chips or sawdust are treated with one or more enzymes such as lipases, esterases, pectinases, cellulases, laccases, hemicellulases and combinations thereof. The enzyme formulation can be applied to the surface of the wood chips or sawdust, e.g. by spraying, or can be impregnated into the wood chips. The enzyme formulation can further comprise one or more surface active agents which can enhance the effectiveness of the enzyme treatment by improving the diffusion or impregnation of the enzymes into the wood chips. The enzyme-based treatment can be applied at any of several different locations prior to the pulping process including chip piles, chip conveyors, chip silos, chips washers, chip washer water stream, impregnation liquor, or during chip storage. The enzyme-based treatment is quick and easy to apply in most commercial mill operations. The enzyme-based treatment is effective at temperatures from about 20° C. to about 100° C., preferably from about 35° C. to about 70° C. The wood chips or saw dust can be treated for a period of time from about 0.10 to about 200 hours, more preferably from about 10 to about 72 hours. The addition of the enzyme formulation into the wood chip or sawdust pile increases the concentration of pitch-degrading enzymes on the chip or dust surfaces which can significantly accelerate the degradation of pitch components inside the chips or sawdust. Decreasing the total extractives content of the wood chips and modifying the structure of the wood chips or sawdust leads to a decrease in the apparent pitch content during pulping and in reduced energy requirements, increased paper strength, improved paper machine runability, and lower costs associated with paper manufacturing.

摘要: This invention describes a new refrigerant/lubricant combination for use in stationary and mobile refrigeration and air conditioning applications. In these applications, the refrigerant and lubricant must be soluble in each other (e.g., miscible) to ensure adequate lubricant circulation from the compressor, through the condenser, expansion device, and evaporator, and back to the compressor. Insufficient lubricant circulation will result in compressor failure. Low temperature solubility is particularly important to ensure lubricant flow through the cold evaporator. In addition, the lubricant and refrigerant combination should be stable in the presence of steel, and aluminum and copper containing metals. This invention describes the combination of refrigerant difluoroethane (e.g. R-152a) and polar, oxygenated lubricants, particular polyalkylene glycols (PAGs) and polyolesters (POEs) which may be used as a replacement for R-134a.

摘要: A system for deterring and preventing theft of a pet from a system subscriber who affixes a location unit to the pet whose theft is to be deterred is disclosed wherein the location unit calculates the location of the pet at any given time. The system comprises a web host connected to a wide area web network, such as the Internet. The web host includes a computer readable medium and is accessible by the subscriber from a remote computer terminal. A computer program resides on the web host for receiving a tracking request from the subscriber and transmitting a tracking call to the location unit carried by the pet. The computer program includes instructions embodied in computer readable code for automatically transmitting the tracking call, receiving location data from the location unit in response to the tracking call, and transmitting the location data to the subscriber's terminal where the current location of the pet is displayed. In other aspects of the invention, a method of deterring theft of pets from pet owners is disclosed wherein the owners have computer terminals with displays. The method includes automatically receiving a tracking request at a web host initiated at the owner's terminal seeking the present location of a pet; transmitting a tracking call to a pet location unit in response to receiving the tracking request; receiving location data at the web host from the location unit in response to the tracking call; and transmitting the location data to the computer terminal of the owner for display of the current location of the pet on the owner's terminal display.
