摘要: A device for separating a heterogeneous mass of solid material into fractions. The constituents of a heterogeneous mass of solid material are comminuted and dried and then separated into fractions. The mass is received in a trough-shaped and subjected to vibration causing high density constituents to segregate downwards and low density constituents to segregate upwards, so that the fractions may be removed at different layer levels.

摘要: A system for collecting, drying, and comminuting garbage. The garbage is collected and introduced into a hopper. A plurality of heat lamps and sandblasting nozzles are provided on the walls of the hopper. The garbage is dried and comminuted in the hopper. A mesh conveyor is provided for filtering out particles smaller than sand which are delivered by a conveyor for further waste disposal. Particles and sand which do not pass through the mesh conveyor are fed back and delivered under pressure to the sandblasting nozzles.

摘要: Method and apparatus for recovering glass from old glass by continuously feeding the old glass onto an open, continuously running conveyor system by segregating nonglass impurities and by mechanically crushing old glass in a breaking apparatus. To facilitate visual inspection and concentrating the size range of the shards, a sorting of the old glass into two fractions of different piece sizes is performed in a separating apparatus prior to the manual sorting and before crushing. Exclusively the old glass of the at least one coarser fraction ("coarse glass") is fed, after the segregation of at least a portion of the nonglass impurities, to the breaking apparatus. Then the old glass of this fraction, crushed to the desired shard size, is freed of remaining impurities and finally fed to a place of storage for good glass. After the segregation of at least a portion of the nonglass impurities, the old glass of the at least one finer fraction ("fine glass"), is fed without additional breaking, to a mechanical separating apparatus for the segregating of remaining metallic impurities and finally to a place of storage for good glass.

摘要: A method for disposing of waste materials including wastes generated by residential neighborhoods and business districts of a municipal area, by collecting waste materials centrally, sorting out and removing non-combustible materials from the collected wastes, and shredding the combustible materials coarsely. The coarsely shredded materials are then transported, if necessary, to the location of an incinerator or other furnace into which the materials are fed as fuel at a rate controlled in accordance with the requirements of the burner for complete and clean combustion, by feeding the coarsely shredded materials into a further shredder, shredding the materials to a final size, and immediately conveying the reshredded materials into the burner. Transportation and measurement of the coarsely shredded materials is thus accomplished with the waste materials at an optimum density for convenient handling and transportation at an economical cost.

摘要: Apparatus for processing waste material made up of a mass of comingled abrasive shards and the like, uncrushable and shreddable classes of waste so that the subsequent individual handling of that waste material is made more efficient. The apparatus combines in a common structure rotary disc screen for initially separating the waste material so that the shards and abrasive classes of material are able to drop through the rotary disc screen while the remainder of the material is delivered to the apparatus for gravitational classification as between the uncrushables and shreddables in response to air flow in a controlled atmosphere to promote gravity fall-out separation of the heavier components from the lighter components.

摘要: The invention is an improved system for separating waste products into several components and then providing for total utilization thereof. The systemitized arrangement integrates numerous automatic operations to produce the separation of the components and then provides for automatically directing the separated components to ultimate destinations for total utilization. The system first processes bulk waste products such as garbage, rubbish, and other discarded material and shreds it into small size particles. The shredded waste products are then mixed with sewage sludge received from another source. The mixture is then processed through a controlled sludge composting means. At this point a first benefit is derived by means of hot exhaust air from the controlled sludge composting means being directed to a hot house structure to aid in the growth of food products. Following the controlled sludge composting means the resulting compost is separated by screening and the fine material is further cured for direct use in agriculture and gardening type operations. The large particles are further separated by magnetic and ballistic means into various components for specified distribution and uses. Concurrently, following the aforementioned shredder, a high velocity air classifier directs the paper, light plastics, and similar waste matter to an incinerating process for generating steam which is used for heating, generating electricity, and other useful purposes. The automatic operations eliminates the need for manual labor for separation and classification operations.

摘要: A rotary drum screen which exhibits baffles with impact plates extending in the direction of the periphery and a diameter which makes it possible to break up the refuse beforehand through free fall. The upper edge of the impact plates can have a saw tooth contour and the cross section of the drum casing is a polygon, preferably an octagon. The rotary drum screen rotates at a rotational speed such that the centrifugal acceleration at the drum casing is preferably 50-70% of acceleration due to gravity.

摘要: A garbage conveying system is provided. The system has upstream and downstream ends and includes a plurality of remote terminals adapted to receive garbage at a plurality of locations, a central terminal for receiving garbage from each of the remote terminals, and a plurality of remote terminal valves positioned between each of the remote terminals and the central terminal for selective isolation of one or more of the remote terminals. The central terminal includes (1) a suction blower positioned adjacent the downstream end of the system, (2) a separator positioned upstream of the blower, with the separator having a lower portion for the discharge of at least a portion of the garbage passing into the separator, and an upper portion for the passage of air and any remaining garbage therethrough, (3) a filter positioned between the separator and the blower filtering out the remaining garbage, with the filter including a lower portion for the discharge of the garbage therefrom, and (4) a garbage valve for permitting the flow of garbage from the lower portions of the separator and filter while minimizing the flow of air therethrough. The invention may also be defined as a method for conveying garbage, including the steps of receiving garbage at a plurality of remote terminals, comminuting the garbage at such terminals, selectively conveying the garbage from one of the terminals through the use of blower suction, separating out at least a portion of the garbage, filtering out the remainder of the garbage, and collecting the separated out and filtered out garbage.

摘要: Method and apparatus for recovering metal and plastic from plastic insulated wire. Plastic insulated wire is first chopped or otherwise comminuted to reduce the wire size. The bare metal, typically copper or aluminum, is separated from the insulation and insulated wire by aspiration or electrostatic separation. The plastic insulation is then separated from the insulated wire and any remaining bare metal by eddy current separation, typically in a linear induction motor, resulting in three fractions, the bare metal, the pure plastic, and the remaining plastic insulated wire pieces. The latter may be further processed, as by impact milling to separate the plastic from the metal, and then recycled to separate bare metal, plastic insulation, and insulated wire.
