摘要: The present invention discloses a method for contour hardening a gear by means of induction heat treatment in a single heating cycle, using a single frequency of induction current. The typical frequency of alternating current is 50 KHz, applied in a single heating cycle for a duration in the general range of 0.3-1.0 seconds, having a power in the typical range of 200-1,000 KW. The power level required for any particular gear is typically 120% to 150% that required in the final heating step of a hardening process which requires preheating. An important advantage of the process disclosed herein is the elimination of the need to preheat the gear, yet contour harden tooth and root regions of said gear with a single heating cycle of a single frequency heating current.

摘要: Continuously moving, elongated, thin work products are subjected to homogeneous electromagnetic inductive heating in the transverse direction. The heating is achieved by an induction heating apparatus having a rotating inductor with a plurality of magnetic poles and an adjustable yoke. The inductor is rotatable about an axis and the work product is guided by a rotatable support in a loop path coaxial with the axis. The yoke includes at least two elements that are movable relative to one another to vary gap between the inductor and the yoke to thereby generate a traverse profile of the resultant moving magnetic field across the width of the work product. The magnetic field is uniform in the center zone of the work product, then at either edge of the work product, first increases and then subsequently decreases to a value below the uniform field with increasing distance away from the center zone.

摘要: An induction heater probe for use with stud mounted hot melt fasteners, the induction heater probe having an outer ferrite cup core portion and an inner hollow cylindrically shaped ferrite core portion with an aperture configured to receive the stud portion of a hot melt fastener. Induction windings surround the inner cylindrical core portion, the housing supporting the ferrite cup core portion including an adjustment screw for limiting the entry of the stud portion of the fastener into the core hole in the inner hollowed cylinder-shaped ferrite core portion of the pot core in the induction heater probe. The pot core ferrite material provides a low reluctance path for the magnetic field lines thereby shielding the stud portion of the hot melt fastener. A coupling coil surrounding the inner hollow cylindrical-shaped ferrite core portion is excited with 35 kHz energy for a period of about ten seconds thereby heating the fastener to approximately 600.degree. F. and melting the adhesive wafer portion of the stud mounted hot melt fastener.

摘要: An inductively heated godet is mounted on a supporting frame which carries a rotatable drive shaft. A stationary primary winding is mounted about a magnetic core carried by a body which is fastened to the frame. A rotatable hollow shell which concentrically surrounds the primary winding is removably secured to the rotatable drive shaft. The magnetic core and rotatable hollow shell have in their longitudinal section essentially opposing L-shaped profiles with the flank portions thereof being concentric to the godet turning axis and the foot portion of each L-shaped profile extending substantially radially with respect to the godet turning axis toward the opposing flank portion of the other L-shaped profile such that the flank and foot portions of the shell and magnetic core form radially spaced annular gaps therebetween which are concentric to the godet turning axis. In addition, the axially directed gaps necessarily formed between the magnetic core and rotatable hollow shell are relatively large with respect to the annular gaps so that magnetic flux created by the primary winding will flow almost entirely over the smaller annular gaps. In one embodiment, the foot portion of the L-shaped profile of the shell has a recess formed therein which may be filled with an electrically conductive material which helps direct the magnetic flux and increase the heating effect in that zone of the shell. In another embodiment, the primary winding is formed of multiple electrically interconnected partial coils which are slidable on to the magnetic core.

摘要: An inductor arrangement for induction heating of one or more flat circular plates of different diameters including a first set of windings always active during operation of the brazing press and a second set of windings selectively inserted in series with the first set. The first set comprises a central portion including on or more small diameter pancake coils covering the center of the plate to be heated and a peripheral portion made up of a flat annular spiral surrounding the central portion and further away from this plate than the latter. The second set comprises a flat annular spiral each of whose turns is tapped so as to insert that one or pair of turns which faces the peripheral zone of the plate to be heated in series with the first set.

摘要: Titanium alloy blanks or the like are successively coated with a high-temperature lubricant; preheated, e.g. in a preheat oven or in the forming machine, to a forming temperature (about 1000 1775* F.); precision formed into a desired shape in a press which includes inductively heated forming tools, serving to maintain the metal at the forming temperature throughout the forming operation; and slowly cooled, e.g. first in a postheat oven down to a lower elevated temperature (e.g. about 600* F.) and then down to ambient temperature under cover of an asbestos blanket or the like. The heat-forming tools include a fixed die, a movable die and a movable clamping pad. The movable tools are mounted for precision movement by leader pins and bushings. Insulation and water jackets are interposed between the heated tools and the leader pins and bushings to prevent harmful heating of the latter. The forming tools comprise water-cooled tubular conductors embedded in insulative material which in turn is embedded in die parts of long life metals on which the forming surfaces are machined or embedded in supporting cores therefor.
