摘要: The disclosure describes an apparatus to move, individually and at a controlled rate, sawlogs and tree stems from a first multiple feeding station to a second station situated at a higher level than that of the first station; it comprises a frame and two sets of movable plates, both extending in parallel vertical planes. A system of levers is connected to the two sets of movable plates so as to serve as support and to supply them with a trajectory defining an arc of a circle. A rotary motor, a drive lever and a link cooperate to provide this trajectory with a sinusoidal-type acceleration.

A roller is supported at the end of a first arm of the lever, with at least a portion of the roller positionable above the top surface of the support rail. The end of the second arm is articulated to an adjustment member, actuation of which causes the lever to pivot, raising or lowering the roller.

摘要: A log-positioning conveyor (10) includes a pair of spaced-apart lug-supporting frames (12, 14) and an interconnecting center frame (16). Vertical and horizontal cylinders (42, 44, 46, 48), one of each at each end of the conveyor, are interconnected between end frame members (22, 24) and anchor locations (50, 52, 54, 56). The cylinders (42, 44, 46, 48) are extended and retracted for moving the conveyor vertically and/or horizontally. The conveyor frame (12, 14, 16) is stabilized in position, both endwise and angularly by a stabilizing arm (66). This arm (66) has a universal joint (68) at its inner end connected to an end frame (24) and a universal joint (70) at its outer end connected to an anchoring structure (72). A system of horizontal and vertical light beams (HB, VB) is used to measure each log as it ascends on the conveyor (10) to an uppermost position. After the measured log reaches the uppermost position, the cylinders (42, 44, 46, 48) are extended or retracted, as necessary, in order to position the entire conveyor (10) to in this manner move the log (L) that is at the uppermost position into a desired pick-up position for that particular log (L).

摘要: A trough conveyor receives small logs from a deck to form a bundle and conveys the bundled logs lengthwise to a discharge end. The log bundle is transported intermittently to project sections of the log bundle successively beyond the discharge end of the trough conveyor, which sections are cut off to form batches of bolts by vertically reciprocable twin saw cutoff mechanism. After a cutting operation, the saws may be swung away from each other to clear the trough conveyor while the saws are being raised and, during such raising movement, the trough conveyor may be powered to feed the log bundle lengthwise to project the next bolt-making increment of the logs beyond the cutoff mechanism.

摘要: A sawmill in which a multi-log supporting mechanism is constructed wherein logs are grasped at spaced angular positions about the mechanism and rotated by it between an initial receiving position to a profile measurement position and then to a sawing position. The end-to-end axis of the supporting mechanism is adjustably oriented with respect to a saw in terms of profile measurements and size of lumber determined to be cut from a log. Directionally, this adjustment is made normal to the profile measurement dimension.

摘要: A crowding lug transfer conveyor system has an infeed and an outfeed end with a primary conveyor surface serving to a convey pieces therebetween. A plurality of lugs, each slideably mounted on a lug chain, are held at the infeed end and then released ahead of an incoming piece. An upstanding member on the lug is above the plane of the primary surface and the lug body is below the plane. A predetermined body length establishes the spacing and crowding distance at the outfeed end. Escapement mechanisms serve to release individual lugs on command both at the infeed and outfeed ends. At the outfeed end a plurality of lugs and pieces may be accumulated and spaced with the pieces then being metered in a singulated controlled manner. Caliper blocks in the lugs serve to grasp the lug chain when a lug is released with the lug chain continuously passing through the caliper blocks when the lug is being held in place awaiting release.

摘要: A lumber mill system includes an endless lower spike chain conveyor, log loading charger for loading logs one at a time onto such charger such that the geometrical center is laterally offset from the longitudinal centerline of the conveyor and microprocessor for determining the optimum amount of lateral offset, if any, to maximize lumber recovery from the log. The log loading charger includes a frame pivotable about a pivot axis, axial carriage supported by the frame for horizontal movement in the same direction as the lower conveyor, and tandem radial carriages supported by the axial carriage for movement toward and away from the pivot axis. The radial carriages support clamp arms for gripping the log. The charger operates to grip a log adjacent the lower conveyor, swing the log above the lower conveyor to the predetermined laterally offset position, and lower the log onto the lower conveyor while simultaneously moving the log downstream with the conveyor. An endless overhead spike chain engages an upper surface of the log to support it on the lower conveyor and minimize other than downstream movement of the log.

摘要: The saw includes a sectional table top made up of one or more sections that may be opened to receive insertable conversion assemblies adapted to provide additional woodworking functions. A rotary saw blade is moveable reciprocatively with respect to the table top at selected angles of tilt and at selected heights. One or two rip fences are selectively positionable in parallel alignment with the rotary saw blade, and may be lowered to form lateral extensions of the table top. The table top includes dovetail grooves to receive attachment for a work piece clamp or an angle guide. A kerf guide is attachable to the rear edge of the table top.

摘要: The invention relates to a device for preventing length measuring errors resulting from accidentally remaining local offshoots from a portion of the butt end of a tree stem which is continuously advanced toward a cross-cutting member for cutting the stem in predetermined length sections. A stem-measuring device periodically emits a cutting impulse to the cross-cutting member so that the advancing stem will be cut into predetermined lengths. Two detectors are provided in a spaced relationship for sensing the entering of the butt end into a detecting station and then emitting an actuating signal to start the measuring device. The spacing of the two detectors, which are symmetrically positioned with respect to the centerline of the stem path, does not exceed a predetermined minimum butt diameter. The measuring device is not actuated until signals from both detectors are emitted. Thus, sensing of a local offshoot from the butt end by only one of the detectors does not start the measuring device with the result that the offshoot does not cause a shorter-than-desired length of stem.

摘要: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for feeding lumber, especially in connection with a four-band saw for separating and feeding side boards. The problem in four-band sawing is how to separate the boards of a pair of side boards sawed off from the sides of a log or block for further processing such as trimming. This problem is solved so that the side boards that are sawed off from the log are dropped by opening side guards and then directed the side boards by means of adjustable dropping flaps onto a transverse conveyor so that they remain on the conveyor with the cant edge focus up. The boards are then piled on top of each other and/or in a laminating fashion. The side boards are arranged, by shifting them against transient stops of the transverse conveyor, into a pile wherefrom the side boards can be suitably fed further by means of stopping members arranged in connection with the conveyor on a sloping plane. The stopping members can be adjusted into at least two different positions. In the first position the uppermost board of the pile of boards continues its movement but the rest are stopped. In the second position the next side board is released, and the rest are held back. This continues until all the boards are fed.
