    摘要: Apparatus for breaking up solidified particulate material in a storage container has a housing lowerable into the container on the lower end of a suspension element. A flailing element holder is rotatably mounted on the housing for rotary movement relative thereto about a substantially vertical axis when the housing is suspended in the container. An elongated flexible flailing element projects from the holder, and the holder is rotated relative to the housing to cause the flailing element to engage and break up solidified particulate material when the housing is suspended in the container. The housing has a torque-balancing device mounted for rotation relatively thereto about a substantially vertical axis, and the torque-balancing device is rotated in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the flailing element holder to substantially balance torque produced by rotation of the flailing element holder and thereby substantially prevent angular movement of the housing about a vertical axis when the flailing element holder is rotated.

    摘要: A method of identifying a parameter of a model for a rate of loss of boiler efficiency due to a sootblowing operation, in a boiler or other convection heat transfer device having a plurality of heat traps, comprises measuring a time since a last sootblowing operation in the heat trap in question, measuring an overall boiler efficiency at the beginning of sootblowing for the heat trap in question, measuring a change in efficiency due to the sootblowing operation and calculating the parameter using an equation. According to the equation, the ratio of efficiency change over overall boiler efficiency equals the time factor since the last sootblowing operation times the parameter minus a summation of factors for each of the other heat traps and their associated sootblowing operations. A method is also disclosed for enhancing a sootblowing operation wherein, with a plurality of heat traps, sootblowing is performed in an upstream heat trap in preference to a downstream heat trap, when both heat traps are near a fouled condition which would require sootblowing. This prevents premature fouling of a downstream heat trap which has recently been cleaned by soot blown off an upstream heat trap.

    摘要: A base frame is arranged to be supported at the top of a chimney and has a support arm which extends over the top of the chimney opening. A crank is provided on the support arm, and an elongated flexible member hangs from the crank whereby upon turning the crank the flexible member swings around inside the chimney to knock off collected substance. The crank is arranged to be driven by an operating rod extending to a remote area, such as to the ground, whereby operation of the crank can be accomplished from the ground. In a modification of the apparatus, an electric motor may be supported on the base frame for providing the drive for the crank.

    摘要: A flexible body member has lateral fingers arranged upon rotation to knock off substance which has collected on the inner surface of a chimney. A weight is provided at the bottom end of the body member to hold the latter substantially plumb in a chimney when operated, and a spindle is provided at the top of the body member for attachment to power drive mechanism such as a conventional hand drill. The body member preferably comprises a link chain having flattened lateral engaging portions which produce a drive connection from one link to the next without buckling or twisting. In a modified form of the invention, individual lateral fingers are pivotally connected to the body member and pivot upwardly by centrifugal force upon rotation of the body member whereby automatically to accommodate different chimney dimensions and offset portions thereof.

    摘要: A furnace having a primary heat exchange unit also providing a combustion chamber, a secondary heat exchange unit connected by an upper crossover conduit to the primary heat exchange unit, and a tertiary heat exchange unit connected by a lower V-shaped crossover conduit to the secondary heat exchange unit. A third crossover conduit connects the V-shaped crossover conduit with the primary heat exchange unit. Vibrating means are provided between the secondary and tertiary heat exchange units to vibrate the walls thereof and dislodge clinging fly ash so that it falls into the V-shaped crossover conduit for removal by the screw conveyor. A burner assembly of a furnace includes a combustion air housing carrying a circular, stationary grate with an annular valley for carrying fuel during combustion. A central opening is connected to a fuel conveyor for introduction of fuel to the grate through the lower portion of the housing. Combustion air introduction conduits on the housing are remote from the fuel introduction passages and introduce air under pressure at the lower portion of the grate. An agitator and discharge ring is provided on the grate and is rotated on the grate by a suitable drive sprocket mechanism to agitate the fuel for more complete burning thereof and to remove burned ash. A horizontal burner plate is supported by a plurality of legs connected to the agitator and discharge ring over the grate to promote more complete combustion of the fuel.

    摘要: The disclosure is directed to a soot blower of the long retracting type. In accordance with the invention, a novel cable drive system is provided to impart a traverse motion to the lance tube of the soot blower. The cable drive system comprises a rotatable, cable-supporting drum, a first cable including one end fastened to the drum and extending from the drum to an operative connection with the traveling carriage supporting the soot blower lance tube and a second cable including an end fastened to the drum and extending from the drum to an operative connection with the traveling carriage on a side thereof opposite to the side which is connected to the first cable. The drum is selectively rotatable in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction and rotation of the drum is operative to move the traveling carriage in an advancing or retracting direction along a predetermined path of travel. Pursuant to a significant feature of the invention, the rotatable drum is positioned at a location midway between the forwardmost and rearwardmost ends of the predetermined path of travel. The soot blower of the invention also includes an automatic cable guide system to guide the drive cables onto and off of the drum, a revolving roller assembly to support and guide the lance tube during its working motion along the predetermined path of travel and a novel valve and valve actuator operable to provide a cleaning fluid flow to the lance tube at appropriate times during its working motion.

The track traversed by the end of the outer casing of the blower is sloped upward to the fulcrum in control of the vertical position of the nozzle-bearing end of the blower extended into the furnace space.
