In some embodiments, gas-filled aerial transport and launch system, comprises: a transport aircraft comprising: a gas chamber; and a carrier compartment where the gas chamber induces a lifting force on the carrier compartment; at least one propulsion system; and a navigation control system that controls the direction of travel of the transport aircraft; wherein the carrier compartment comprises: an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) storage area configured to receive multiple UASs; and an UAS launching bay that enables the UAS to be launched while the transport aircraft is in flight and while the UAS is carrying a package to be delivered.

Abstract: A drone delivery method is provided. The present invention includes an aircraft having a cargo area. The cargo area may include at least one package and at least one unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The aircraft flies to a location. The aircraft then releases the UAV from the cargo area while the aircraft is flying or hovering. The package is secured to the UAV prior to releasing the UAV from the cargo area. The UAV is then directed to a delivery destination. Once the UAV has reached the delivery destination, the package is released for delivery. Once the package has been released, the UAV may be directed back to the cargo area within the aircraft.

Abstract: The present invention is a system which facilitates the launch and recovery of an aircraft or other vehicle by another vehicle or site. This system includes cables, wires or other “lines” that are connected to both the subject vehicle and the launch and recovery platform and facilities to extend, retract and position these lines. When the relative motion of the subject vehicle and launch and recovery platform causes the lines to intersect, the lines are connected to each other by means of a hook, carabiner or similar attachment device resulting in the effective capture of the subject vehicle. One or both of the lines may then be retracted resulting in the recovery of the subject vehicle. Launch is accomplished by extending one or both of the lines and subsequently releasing the attachment device.

Abstract: A Tethercraft is a type of UAV coupled to a Lead Aerial Vehicle (LAV) forming a single aerial vehicle operated by a single flight crew thereby increasing cargo capacity and vehicle capability. Automated Flight Control Systems (AFCS) in both the Tethercraft and LAV provide the capability to ‘lock’ a Tethercraft in specific positions relative to its LAV for flight operations such as, but not limited to, takeoff, cruising, and landing. The LAV provides all (towing), some (assisted towing), or none (navigation only) of the propulsion for a Tethercraft depending on the embodiment.A Tethercraft might be positioned closer to the LAV during takeoffs and landings and further away from the LAV during cruising in order to maintain optimum efficiency.A tether can be any rigid, non-rigid, electronic, or other means of coupling two aerial vehicles. Some embodiments might use a means to change the length of the tether such as a winch. Other embodiments might use a fixed-length tether or other means of coupling.

Abstract: A container is used to launch a small aircraft, such as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), from a host aircraft. The container protects the UAV from stresses during the initial ejection from a launcher that is part of the host aircraft. The initial stresses may be due to turbulence in the vicinity of the host aircraft, high airspeed, and/or tumbling that may result from the ejection from the host aircraft moving at a high airspeed. The container may deploy a drag device, such as a drogue chute, to slow the container down and reorient the container, prior to deployment of the UAV from the container. During the time between ejection from the host aircraft and deployment from the container, the UAV may be powered up and acquire data, such as global positioning system (GPS) data, to allow the UAV a “hot start” enabling immediate mission commencement.
