Abstract:
Media monitoring using multiple types of signatures is disclosed. An example media monitoring method disclosed herein comprises processing signatures of a first type to monitor media presented by a media device until a first one of the signatures of the first type is determined to match a reference signature of the first type, the reference signature of the first type being associated with first reference media, and processing signatures of a second type to monitor the media presented by the media device after the first one of the signatures of the first type is determined to match the reference signature of the first type and until a number of signatures of the second type is determined not to match corresponding reference signatures of the second type, the reference signatures of the second type being associated with the first reference media.
Abstract:
Systems, methods and apparatus to monitor media presentations are disclosed. An example method includes identifying a media presentation device associated with a Domain Name Service (DNS) query based on a public Internet Protocol (IP) address that originated the DNS query and a destination address of the DNS query. A media source is identified based on a domain name requested in the DNS query. Identification of the media presented in association with the DNS query based on at least one of tagging data and metering data is attempted. A panelist associated with the media presentation device is credited with exposure to the identified media from the media source via the media presentation device when the media is identified. The panelist associated with the media presentation device is credited with exposure to media from the media source via the media presentation device when the media is not identified.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to collect audience information associated with a media presentation are described herein. An example method includes detecting, at a base meter located in proximity to a media presentation device, registration information from a portable metering device within proximity of the base meter, the registration information identifying a user associated with the portable metering device. A content identifier associated with media presented by the media presentation device is determined. A polling query is sent to the portable metering device for presentation to the user. A response to the polling query, the registration information, and the content identifier are communicated to a data collection facility.
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method including the steps of maintaining, by a computer system including at least one computer, a database in which is stored first data related to identification of one or more works and second data related to information corresponding to each of the one or more works as identified by the first data. Extracted features of a work to be identified are obtained. The work is identified by comparing the extracted features of the work with the first data in the database using a non-exhaustive neighbor search. The information corresponding to the identified work is determined based on the second data in the database. The determined information is associated with the identified work.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to adaptively gather audience information data are disclosed. The disclosed methods and apparatus monitor system factor(s) and select one or more sensors from a plurality of sensors positioned to gather audience measurement data based on the monitored factor(s). Thus, the disclosed methods and apparatus adapt to the conditions they face by selecting an amount and/or type of audience measurement data they gather.
Abstract:
Signaturing methods and apparatus as described. In one example, a signaturing method includes capturing an audio signal, applying a first window function to a portion of the captured audio signal to produce a first windowed audio block, applying a second window function to the portion of the captured audio signal to produce a second windowed audio block, determining a first characteristic of a band of frequencies in the first windowed audio block, determining a second characteristic of the band of frequencies in the second windowed audio block, comparing the first characteristic to the second characteristic, and assigning a signature bit representative of the portion of the captured audio signal based on the comparison of the first characteristic and the second characteristic. Other examples are described.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for identifying a digital audio signal are described. An example apparatus for identifying a digital audio signal includes an input to receive the digital audio signal, which includes data from a broadcast or a stored digital program signal. The example apparatus also includes a detector to receive the digital audio signal from the input and determine whether the received digital audio signal is uncompressed as received at the input; a decoder to receive the digital audio signal from the detector when the digital audio signal is compressed as received at the input and identify any first program-identifying code in an auxiliary field of the compressed digital audio signal; and a code reader to receive the digital audio signal from the detector when the digital audio signal is uncompressed as received at the input and receive the digital audio signal from a decompressor when the digital audio signal is compressed as received at the input. Additionally, the code reader is to identify any second program-identifying code in a decompressed or uncompressed portion of the digital audio signal when the first program-identifying code is not identified in the auxiliary field or when the digital audio signal is uncompressed as received at the input.

Abstract:
An audience measurement system generates signatures of unknown pieces of content viewed by panel members, and generates multiplexed reference signatures of known pieces of content. The signatures of the unknown pieces of content are stored and transmitted to a central processing site, where they are compared with the reference signatures for their identification. A signature comparator finds matches between the signatures of the unknown and the known contents.
Abstract:
A method of identifying a media program from its associated audio signal comprising dividing a portion of the range of human-audible frequencies in a quasi-logarithmic fashion into a plurality of spectral bands; recording a segment of predetermined length from the audio signal at a predetermined interval to obtain a plurality of analog audio samples, the predetermined interval being a fraction of the predetermined length; converting each analog audio sample to a plurality of digital audio samples at a first sampling rate; creating a frequency domain representation of each digital audio sample; determining spectral energy within each spectral band for each digital audio sample; reflecting whether the spectral energy within each spectral band went up between adjacent ones of the plurality of digital samples as a Boolean array; and representing the audio signal with a predetermined number of Boolean arrays. A confidence score for each value can then be calculated.
