Abstract: A semi-frameless cabinet system including a top panel, bottom panel, two side panels, and a back panel. The cabinet may also include one or more middle shelves, drawers, or doors. Each of the forward facing sides of the cabinet include a grooved surface, wherein edging is secured to each panels such that the panels and edging form an interior space within the cabinet. The edging overlaps the outer edge of the cabinet panels, but not the inner edge, such that the edging and panels are flush within the interior space of the cabinet. As such, the cabinet employs the advantages of both framed and frameless cabinetry.

Abstract: A two-speed transfer case includes an input shaft that is driven by a vehicle engine, a first output shaft that is coupled to a rear axle, and a second output shaft that is coupled to a front axle. The transfer case also includes a high range gear set and a low range gear set. The high range gear set includes a first gear supported on the input shaft and a second gear supported on the first output shaft. The low range gear set includes a third gear supported on the input shaft and a fourth gear supported on the second output shaft. A shifting mechanism cooperates with the second and fourth gears and the first and second output shafts to provide a plurality of operational output configurations. The shifting mechanism is integrated into a housing that substantially encloses the input shaft and the first and second output shafts.

Abstract: The invention performs handwriting recognition using mixtures of Bayesian networks. A mixture of Bayesian networks (MBN) consists of plural hypothesis-specific Bayesian networks (HSBNs) having possibly hidden and observed variables. A common external hidden variable is associated with the MBN, but is not included in any of the HSBNs. Each HSBN models the world under the hypothesis that the common external hidden variable is in a corresponding one of its states. The MBNs encode the probabilities of observing the sets of visual observations corresponding to a handwritten character. Abstract: Method and apparatus for providing clean air to an environment. Incoming air, which may be contaminated with chemical, nuclear or biological contamination is initially cooled and water is removed from the cooled air by a first cooler, a first water separator, a second cooler and a second water separator. The cooled air is passed through a regenerative pressure swing absorption system which removes the contaminants. The resulting, cleaned, air is expanded by an expander. The expanded, cleaned air is provided to the environment, after being used in the second cooler to clean the incoming air.

Abstract: The panelized roof sheathing construction system includes a plurality of panels attached to a building frame structure in substantially abutting relationship. Each panel includes a water resistant barrier layer secured atop the outward facing surface of the panel. The water resistant barrier layer includes a skid resistant surface. Joints between panels are sealed by strips of water resistant tape or the like. The panels are made of lignocellulosic material. The water resistant and skid resistant surface may include indicia for aligning strips of tape or for aligning fasteners. A method for manufacturing the water resistant building panels is also disclosed and includes the steps of feeding a roll of paper onto a forming belt, depositing lignocellulosic material and the binding agent onto the forming belt so as to form a lignocellulosic mat, cutting the mat and paper into segments of predetermined lengths, transferring the segments onto a loading screen, subjecting the segments to heat and pressure so as to impart the skid resistant surface on the paper, and cutting the segments into panels of predetermined sizes. A method of drying-in a building using the panels of the invention is also contemplated.

Abstract: A wheelchair has a seat, a reclining backrest and anti-tip legs movable between a retracted position and an extended ground contacting position in response to movement of the backrest between an upright and a reclining condition. The inclination of the backrest can be conveniently adjusted by a person seated in the wheelchair by latching a pair of detent arms in one of several slots spaced under the chair's armrests. The anti-tip legs extend to support the wheelchair against tipping backwards when the backrest is reclined and retract out of the way when the backrest is brought upright.

Abstract: A pressure vessel for holding a pressurized fluid such as compressed natural gas ("CNG") includes two end cells and zero or more interior cells. The cell geometry ensures that the cells meet one another at tangential circular surfaces, thereby reducing the tendency of adjacent cells to peel apart. A web secured about the cells includes two sheets that are tangent to the cells. Unused volumes between the cells and the web contain wedges of foam or rubber. A valve provides fluid communication between the interior of the pressure vessel and a pressurized fluid line. The filled weight of one pressure vessel does not exceed the filled weight of a conventional gasoline tank that occupies substantially the same space as the pressure vessel. The pressure vessel may be configured with exterior recesses for engaging conventional gasoline tank straps.

Abstract: An orthopedic splint has two end plates connected to an intermediate hinge which flexes in a plane transverse to the plates and attaches to a limb in a less obtrusive position behind the joint rather than on opposite sides of the joint.
