Abstract:
Methods for removing a material layer from a base substrate utilizing spalling in which mode III stress, i.e., the stress that is perpendicular to the fracture front created in the base substrate, during spalling is reduced. The substantial reduction of the mode III stress during spalling results in a spalling process in which the spalled material has less surface roughness at one of its' edges as compared to prior art spalling processes in which the mode III stress is present and competes with spalling.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of facial recognition of non-occluded or non-obstructed faces is provided. The method includes generating a skin mask based on an occluded image of an individual and removing occluded areas for the occluded image using the skin mask so that skin areas remain. The method further includes generating a correlation filter based on the occluded image. The method further includes applying the skin mask and correlation filter to a non-occluded input image of an individual. The method further includes generating a correlation output based on applying the skin mask and correlation filter to the non-occluded input image. The correlation output may indicate a likelihood that the second individual in the non-occluded input image is of the first individual in the occluded image.
Abstract:
A method of developing a MVQP system includes determining network factors affecting video quality over a LTE network; displaying, via live video streaming, video recordings; receiving evaluations of the displayed video recordings to form a subjective assessment; calculating a subjective MOS for the video recordings based on the corresponding subjective assessment and the network factors; calculating a correlation between the received evaluations and the subjective MOS for the video recordings; receiving and saving the video recordings for an objective assessment; measuring the network factors during reception of the video recordings in the objective assessment; predicting an objective MOS for the video recordings based on the measured network factors, the calculated correlation, and at least one weight value; comparing the predicted objective MOS to the subjective MOS; and based on the comparison, modifying the weight value. The measuring, predicting, and comparing are repeated until a predetermined condition is met.
Abstract:
A zwitterionic monomer and corresponding cyclopolymerized polyzwitterion (±) (PZ) (i.e. poly(Z-alt-SO2). Phosophonate ester hydroloysis in PZ gave a pH-responsive polyzwitterionic acid (±) (PZA). The PZA under pH-induced transformation was converted into polyzwitterion/anion (±−) (PZAN) and polyzwitterion/dianion (±=) (PZDAN).
Abstract:
There is provided an alignment material for a liquid crystal (LC) lens comprising a co-polymer of a photosensitive monomer and at least one alkyl methacrylate monomer. The material allows for the fabrication of a LC lens or LC lens system that is self-aligned and polarization-independent.
Abstract:
An optical rotation sensor includes a Fabry Perot laser having an active gain medium for generating first and second light beams, a closed optical path through which the first and second light beams counter-propagate and first and second mirrors coupled to respective ends of the closed optical path. The first minor is a ring mirror having a complex valued reflectivity that varies with a rotation rate of a frame within which the optical rotation sensor is placed. A detector is coupled to an output of the Fabry Perot laser to measure an output intensity thereof.
Abstract:
Alumina/NiO/ZnO and Alumina/ZnO are synthesized via a novel modified hydrothermal method and investigated for the desulfurization activities. Sulfur compounds such as thiophene, benzothiophene (BT) and dibenzothiophene (DBT) are tested for their removal from model diesel fuel. The prepared composite materials were examined by the means of N2-adsorption, X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
Abstract:
A reinforced polymer composite, and more particularly, a wool reinforced polymer composite is provided. The composition includes wool fibers combined with a polymer to form a reinforced polymeric matrix having at least one of improved Izod Impact Strength (ASTM D-256) or improved Tensile Strength (ASTM D-1708) as compared to the polymer without the fibers.
Abstract:
Compounds are provided for the capture of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The compound is selected from formula (I) and formula (II): The compound includes a salt formed with a suitable counter anion.
Abstract:
A handle substrate having at least one metallization region is provided on a stressor layer that is located above a base substrate such that the at least one metallization region is in contact with a surface of the stressor layer. An upper portion of the base substrate is spalled, i.e., removed, to provide a structure comprising, from bottom to top, a spalled material portion of the base substrate, the stressor layer and the handle substrate containing the at least one metallization region in contact with the surface of the stressor layer.
