Abstract: A method is provided for intra-surgical use of a surgical patient health record in a teleoperated surgical system that includes a surgical instrument and a surgical instrument actuator, comprising: receiving user input commands to control movement of a robotic surgical instrument; tracking robotic surgical instrument actuator state in response to the user input commands; and transitioning robotic surgical instrument actuator state to a safety mode in response to the robotic surgical instrument transitioning to a prescribed actuator state.

Abstract: A system comprises a teleoperational manipulator configured to control operation of a medical instrument in a surgical environment. The system further comprises an operator input system including an input device and a processing unit including one or more processors. The processing unit is configured to display an image of a field of view of the surgical environment and display a menu including a set of directionally arranged menu options. The processing unit is further configured to transition the input device from a first constraint state for interaction with the medical instrument to a second constraint state for interaction with the menu. In the second constraint state, the input device is constrained to move in one or more directions based on the set of directionally arranged menu options.

Abstract: A teleoperational system comprises a teleoperational assembly configured to support an instrument and an imaging device. The instrument has an instrument tip and a processing unit including one or more processors. The processing unit is configured to determine an instrument position of the instrument, determine an instrument position error relative to the imaging device, and determine, based on the instrument position and the instrument position error, that at least a portion of the instrument is outside a field of view of the imaging device. The processing unit is further configured to in response to determining that at least a portion of the instrument is outside the field of view of the imaging device and based on a mode of operation of the teleoperational system, cause an out-of-view indication for the instrument to be presented.

Abstract: A surgical drape for a patient side cart of a teleoperated surgical system may comprise a body sized and shaped to cover at least a portion of an arm or main column of the patient side cart, and an attachment device feature connected to the body, the attachment device feature being configured to install the surgical drape to the arm or main column so as to cover at least a portion of the arm or main column with the surgical drape. In an installed position of the surgical drape on the arm or the main column, the attachment device feature is positioned at a location in sensing proximity of a sensor of the patient side cart.

Abstract: A robotic system may comprise a first robotic arm operatively coupleable to a first tool. The first tool has a first working end. The system may also comprise an image capture device, a display, and a processor. The processor may be configured to cause an image of a work site, which was captured by the image capture device from a perspective of an image reference frame, to be displayed on the display. The image of the work site includes an image of the first working end of the first tool. The processor may also determine a position of the first working end of the first tool in the image of the work site and render a tool information overlay at the position of the first working end of the first tool in the image of the work site. The tool information overlay visually indicates state information for the first tool. The processor may also change the tool information overlay while the first tool is in a first operational state by changing a brightness of the tool information overlay.

Abstract: A system may comprise an image capture device to capture an image of a work site. The system may also comprise a processor to determine whether a tool disposed at the work site is energized and determine a first area of the captured image of the work site, including or adjacent to an image of a portion of the tool in the captured image. The processor may also determine a second area of the captured image including a remainder of the captured image that does not include the first area. Conditioned upon determining that the tool is energized, at least one of the first area and the second area of the captured image of the work site may be processed to indicate that the tool in the first area is being energized. The image of the work site with the first area and the second area may be displayed.

Abstract: Telerobotic, telesurgical, and/or surgical robotic devices, systems, and methods employ surgical robotic linkages that may have more degrees of freedom than an associated surgical end effector in space. A processor can calculate a tool motion that includes pivoting of the tool about an aperture site. Linkages movable along a range of configurations for a given end effector position may be driven toward configurations which inhibit collisions. Refined robotic linkages and methods for their use are also provided.

Abstract: A method comprises displaying a surgical environment image. The surgical environment image includes a virtual control element for controlling a component of a surgical system, and the virtual control element includes a real-time image of the component of the surgical system in the surgical environment image. The method further comprises displaying an image of a body part of a user. The body part is used to interact with the virtual control element. The method further comprises receiving a gesture of the body part of the user in a predetermined motion, via a gesture based input device registering movement of the body part of the user, while the body part interacts with the virtual control element. The method further comprises adjusting a setting of the component of the surgical system based on the received gesture.
