摘要: In a pixel structure of an active matrix liquid crystal display device, a common electrode branching out from a common line which is maintained at a specified voltage and a pixel electrode connected to a drain of a thin-film transistor arranged on a common plane are wound around each other in spiral form. Electric fields generally oriented parallel to a substrate are produced between the common electrode and pixel electrode arranged in each pixel on the substrate. These electric fields drive a liquid crystal material to provide a visual display. The pixel electrode is surrounded, or fenced off, by the common electrode in each pixel so that the former is kept unaffected from interference from a nearby gate line and/or source line.

摘要: An interlayer insulating film (104) that is formed on a substrate (101) so as to cover TFTs (102, 103) is planarized by mechanical polishing that is typified by CMP. Pixel electrodes (106, 107) are formed on the interlayer insulating film (104) and an insulating layer (108) is formed so as to cover the pixel electrodes. The insulating layer (108) is planarized by second mechanical polishing so that the surfaces of the pixel electrodes become flush with those of resulting buried insulating layers (112, 113). Since the pixel electrode surfaces have no steps, such problems as alignment failures of a liquid crystal material and a contrast reduction due to diffused reflection of light can be prevented.

摘要: A liquid crystal projector in which light is effectively used and an excellent picture can be obtained is provided. In the liquid crystal projector, dichroic mirrors arranged at different angles are used to separate white light into beams of light of three primary colors of R, G, and B, and the respective beams of the light are incident on microlenses at different angles. The respective beams of light of the three primary colors are distributed by the microlenses to optical components corresponding to pixels, and highly collimated light beams can be obtained by the optical components. Since the highly collimated light beams are made incident on the pixels of the liquid crystal panel, the beams can be certainly made incident on desired pixels.

摘要: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can perform image display in both modes: a reflective mode where external light is used as an illumination light source; and a transmissive mode where a backlight is used. In one pixel, a region where incident light through a liquid crystal layer is reflected to perform display (reflective region) and a region through which light from the backlight passes to perform display (transmissive region) are provided, and image display can be performed in both modes: the reflective mode where external light is used as an illumination light source; and the transmissive mode where the backlight is used as an illumination light source. In addition, two transistors connected to respective pixel electrode layers are provided in one pixel, and the two transistors are separately operated, whereby display of the reflective region and display of the transmissive region can be controlled independently.

摘要: It is an object to propose a display device in which reflection of external light on a reflective polarizing plate is prevented and also extraction efficiency of light from a light-emitting layer is improved. If the display device has a light-emitting layer provided over a reflective electrode, a transparent electrode provided over the light-emitting layer, a transparent substrate provided over the transparent electrode, a reflective polarizing plate provided over the transparent substrate, a quarter wave plate provided over the reflective polarizing plate, and a polarizing plate provided over the quarter wave plate, reflection of an outside image can be suppressed, and light emitted in the light-emitting layer can be extracted efficiently.

摘要: There is disclosed a contact structure for electrically connecting conducting lines formed on a first substrate of an electrooptical device such as a liquid crystal display with conducting lines formed on a second substrate via conducting spacers while assuring a uniform cell gap among different cells if the interlayer dielectric film thickness is nonuniform across the cell or among different cells. A first conducting film and a dielectric film are deposited on the first substrate. Openings are formed in the dielectric film. A second conducting film covers the dielectric film left and the openings. The conducting spacers electrically connect the second conducting film over the first substrate with a third conducting film on the second substrate. The cell gap depends only on the size of the spacers, which maintain the cell gap.

摘要: A light-condensing means and a pixel electrode may be formed on the same surface side of a substrate, and a region transmitting visible light in the pixel electrode may be provided so as to overlap with an optical axis of the light-condensing means. An anisotropic light-condensing means having a condensing direction X and a non-condensing direction Y may be used, and the light-condensing means may be provided so that the non-condensing direction Y corresponds to a longitudinal direction of the region transmitting visible light in the pixel electrode.
