摘要: A device (100; 200; 300; 400) comprising a sealed cavity (210) containing n volumes of fluids (80, 87; 220, 230; 320, 332; 420, 422, 430, 432) is described, where n is an integer and n≧2. Each volume of fluid is substantially immiscible with every contiguous volume of fluid. The cavity is defined by an interior surface divided into n continuous areas (60, 170; 260, 270; 360, 362, 370; 460, 462, 470, 472), each continuous area corresponding to and being in contact with a respective one of the volumes of fluid. The wettability of each area is such that each volume of fluid preferentially adheres to the corresponding continuous area rather than any one of the continuous areas adjacent to the corresponding area.

摘要: An electrowetting module (20) comprises a fluid chamber (8) which contains a first fluid (A) and a second fluid (B), which are separated by an interface (14), and means to (16,17) exert a force on at least one of the fluids to change the position and/or shape of the interface. By providing at least one of the fluids with a compound having at least one aromatic, non-fused, residue, the performance of the module can be enhanced. For example the optical power of an electrowetting lens (30) can be increased.

摘要: An adjustable fluid type lens system is provided that allows e.g. ultrasound imaging through the lens during adjustment of the lens. The lens includes a container enclosing two immiscible fluids, e.g. water and oil, being in contact with each other at an interface. Incoming waves are then refracted at this interface. The shape of the interface, and thereby the refraction property, is adjustable by adjusting a voltage applied to the lens. The two fluids are selected such that they together exhibit a mechanical damping which is critical or near critical. A control circuit generates the electric voltage for adjusting the refraction from one value to another, the control circuit being arranged to change the electric voltage such that a rate of voltage change is limited to avoid oscillation of the interface, thereby adjusting refraction of incoming waves at the interface in a continuous manner. This makes it possible to use the lens while it is during adjustment from one refraction value to another, since the interface shape will at all time during the adjustment have a controlled shape. The voltage can be either a continuous voltage or a discrete stepwise (digital) voltage which is just controlled with respect to step size and temporal extension of the steps. The lens system has a number of applications e.g. within the medical field, e.g. for ‘on the fly’ high speed ultrasound imaging, or for ultrasound ablation applications where ablation can be performed during adjustment of the lens to follow a pre-defined trajectory.

摘要: The disclosure is directed to a system for variably refracting, and is transparent for, ultrasound as well as for light. By choosing liquids with the right optical and acoustical properties, it is possible to variably refract (including focusing and deflecting or steering) ultrasound while not affecting the refraction of light, or vice versa. Two lenses in series, or preferably one lens, allow for variably refracting ultrasound and light.

摘要: This application describes a medical device (230) for obtaining optical tissue properties of a target material. The medical device (230) comprises an elongated body (231) having a longitudinal axis (232) and an optical fiber being integrated within the elongated body (231). The optical fiber has a second fiber end (242, 242a, 242b), which is arranged at a side wall (233) of the elongated body (231) and which provides a lateral field of view with respect to the longitudinal axis (232). According to an embodiment many optical fibers are integrated each having an optical outlet (242, 242a, 242b) around the elongated body (231). Using the outlets (242, 242a, 242b) to do diffuse optical tomography and also use optical fibers to do an optical inspection, one can get information on the presence of tumors in a volume around the medical device (230) and a tissue characterization in the vicinity of the medical device (230). Thereby, an optical biopsy may be carried out, wherein no real tissue is removed. According to another embodiment an optical detection system is integrated into a real biopsy needle (330) allowing inspection and taking real biopsy simultaneously.

摘要: A controllable optical lens system, comprises a chamber housing first and second fluids, the interface between the fluids defining a lens surface. An electrode arrangement controls the shape of the lens surface and has first and second electrodes. A parameter is determined by the system dependent on the electrical resistance through at least one of the lens fluids between the first and second electrodes. Thus, the series resistance through a lens fluid is used as a measure of meniscus position.
