The instruction set has an instruction which corresponds to a programmed operation for performing a motion estimation calculation between pixel data in frames of video data. The programmed operation causes the processor to calculate a measure of motion estimation at each of a plurality of search locations within a search window. The processor comprises a plurality of calculation units (6), each of the units (6) being operable to perform a calculation, or partial calculation, at a different search location. The plurality of calculation units (6) perform the calculations, or partial calculations, in parallel. The measure of motion estimation calculation is one of: a sum of absolute difference (SAD) calculation; a mean square error (MSE) calculation, a mean absolute error (MAE) calculation.

    摘要: A method for characterizing a communication channel on a communication network includes receiving within a network node at least one silent symbol transmitted together with a packet, and determining within the network node the amount of energy received by the network node during the silent symbol. Determining the amount of energy may include comparing the amount of energy received during a first silent symbol with the amount of energy received during subsequent silent symbols. The packet transmitted with the silent symbol may include a preamble and the silent symbol may be transmitted before the preamble. The packet may include data symbols and the silent symbol may be transmitted for a duration that is shorter than the duration of one data symbol transmitted in the packet.

    摘要: The present invention provides a system and method for automatically controlling the phase of the clock signal for sampling an HDTV signal, which implements a new and improved method for phase detection. The system and method utilize the standard format of an HDTV signal to consistently ensure accurate phase detection. Particularly, the system and method detect the target phase for the sampling clock using a tri-level sync pattern that exists at the beginning of each display line. This tri-level sync pattern or “sync pulse” is well suited for phase detection since it includes several static areas separated by substantial transitions. Furthermore, by using the sync pulse of the HDTV signal, the system and method provide consistent and accurate results, since the sync pulse will not change regardless of the whether the video data is static or in motion.

    摘要: Several local IEEE1394 buses are bridged together over a second bus type to create a global bus wherein each local bus node is able to address nodes across the global bus without the local nodes being aware of the bridging operation. A bridging device operates by translating local bus node addresses to a global bus for communication over the second bus type. Alternatively, the local bus node identification process is controlled by the bridging device operating as the root node to cause the local nodes to be identified with a node address that is unique for the global network. The second bus type operates as a backbone for the global network and can be any type of communication bus or network with capability to transport the local bus traffic. The bridging devices that interface the local IEEE1394 buses to the backbone contain portals specific to each bus type that can communicate data between the dissimilar buses.

    摘要: A compressed data stream modifier 270 is disclosed. The stream modifier modifies an input data stream that may comprise audio and video data streams conforming to any one of the well-known video compression standards, for example, MPEG or AVC. The input stream is first de-multiplexed to obtain a single video elementary stream. The video elementary stream is then decoded by means of a variable-length decoder and provided to the data stream modifier. A decoding complexity of each frame is estimated by an estimator 210 and provided to a controller 250. The controller selects a number of regions from each frame based on some psycho-visual criteria, such that a method of modification of these regions can bring the decoding complexity within an available capacity at a decoder. An efficient means of adapting a decoding complexity to an available capacity is thus obtained.

    摘要: Multiple channels of received data are processed by a multiple channel demodulation and error correction decoding engine. The statistical uncertainty of processing channels with an iterative decoder are averaged across all the channels to reduce the total processing power required of the decoding engine compared to processing each channel with a separate engine. A set of input buffers holds blocks of data for each channel needing decoding. A quality measure is computed on each input block to set the priority and iteration allocation of decoding in the common decoder. The input RF signal is digitized by a broadband tuner that processes some or all of the channels to feed the multiple channel demodulator and decoder. Multiple decoded video data streams are output.
