Abstract:
An embossing system for embossing and perforating at least a portion of a web is provided comprising a first embossing roll having embossing elements and at least a second embossing roll having embossing elements, wherein the elements of the first and second embossing rolls define perforate nips for embossing and perforating the web and wherein at least a predominate number of the perforate nips are substantially oriented in the cross-machine direction. Moreover, substantially all of the nips defined by the embossing elements of the first and second embossing rolls can be substantially oriented in the cross-machine direction. Further, the cross-machine embossing elements are at an angle of about 85° to 95° from the machine direction.
Abstract:
A multi-ply tissue includes a first cellulosic embossed ply having an emboss pattern applied over a portion of its surface and a second cellulosic embossed ply of tissue. The first ply is contact laminated to the second ply so that the primary adhesion between the plies of tissue is the result of contact between cellulosic fibers. The first and second plies contact one another in contact areas, with the contact areas between the first and second plies defining compliant voids. The contact areas between the first ply and the second ply are elongated and/or rounded contact areas. A method of forming a multi-ply tissue involves conveying a base sheet through a nip between an impression roll and a pattern roll to produce an embossed base sheet having a back side possessing projections, applying adhesive to the back side of the embossed base sheet at spaced apart locations, and applying a flat backing sheet to the back side of the embossed base sheet so that the backing sheet adheres to the back side of the embossed base sheet at said spaced apart locations. A method of producing an embossed tissue involves successively conveying a base sheet through a nip between a first impression roll and a pattern roll, and conveying the base sheet through another nip between the pattern roll and a second impression roll, wherein the second impression roll is made of rubber having a lower hardness than the rubber from which the first impression roll is made.

Multi-ply fibrous structure products, more specifically embossed multi-ply fibrous structure products and methods for making same are provided.
Abstract:
A method for producing a multi-ply embossed product including the steps of: providing two or more plies of material to a lamination apparatus, each ply having a lamination surface; laminating one ply of the two or more plies of material to at least one other of the two or more plies of material to provide a laminated web having a first lamination pattern; directing the laminated web to a separate embossing apparatus; and embossing the laminated web in a second pattern to provide an embossed web, wherein the embossing step takes place after the laminated web is laminated.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a sheet of paper tissue which is embossed by an embossing cylinder of which the surface is fitted at least in part with embossing elements. The elements include a frustoconical base portion and a tip portion. The method is characterized in that the tip segment includes a flat of which the area is less than 75% of the smaller cross-sectional area of the base. Preferably the area of the flat is less than 20% of the base cross-sectional area. The invention furthermore concerns a sheet thusly manufactured and to sheets made of several plies of which at least one is a ply of the invention.

Abstract:
Apparatus and methodology to provide embossing of recycled pulp, which may contain contaminants such as glue or paper particles, without adversely affecting the processing machinery. This enables the recycled pulp to be embossed in a manner similar to that of non-recycled pulp which provides an absorbency, softness and appearance to the finished product which compares favorably to paper products made from non-recycled pulp. The embossing is carried out by matched embossing rollers in which one of the rollers is relatively soft (Shore A hardness of 50-65) and the other roller is relatively hard (Shore A hardness above 90). Recycled pulp, even containing contaminants, may be embossed in this manner without causing excess wear or possible damage to the embossing rollers.
Abstract:
An embossed paper (10), wherein the paper is a highly extensible Kraft paper (10null) and wherein discrete bosses (14) and/or depressions (12) consist of portions of said paper stretched at a dry content of 50-95% is disclosed. A two, three or multi-layer paperboard comprising at least one layer of the embossed and/or depressed paper (10) is also disclosed. Thus, the embossed paper may be used as such or instead of fluted paper in a corrugated board. The disclosed paperboard is easily creased and folded in both major directions, and in other direction as well. Method of producing the embossed paper (10) and a method or producing a two, three or multi-layer paperboard comprising at least one layer of the embossed and/or depressed paper (10) are also described.
Abstract:
The device for embossing and/or calendering foils comprises at least one first and one second embossing roll between the flat material is passed under pressure in order to produce a pattern. The second embossing roll is followed by at least another embossing roll which cooperates with the first or the preceding embossing roll and between which the patterned flat material is passed in order to receive essentially the same pattern in a re-embossing procedure. In the case of complex treatments, it is advantageous to synchronize the embossing rolls. Particularly in the case of paper having a thin metallization, the following additional embossing roll which re-embosses the pattern allows to avoid higher contact pressures causing increased wear, and a substantially improved folding behavior is obtained.
