Abstract:
This disclosure relates to temporary suspension, and subsequent resumption, of radio resource aggregation in a wireless communication system. A wireless device may establish a communication link with a base station. The communication link with the base station may aggregate radio resources according to a first wireless communication technology and a second wireless communication technology. Use by the communication link of radio resources according to the second wireless communication technology may be suspended. Wireless communication activity according to the second wireless communication technology that is not associated with the communication link may be performed while use by the communication link of radio resources according to the second wireless communication technology is suspended. Use by the communication link of radio resources according to the second wireless communication technology may be resumed after performing the wireless communication activity according to the second wireless communication technology.
Abstract:
An apparatus, system, and method for performing PDCCH preparation in RF circuitry are described. In one embodiment, power may be provided to a crystal oscillator to exit a first sleep state. One or more clocking signals may be provided to RF circuitry based on output from the crystal oscillator. Calibration and state restoration of the RF circuitry may be performed independent of baseband circuitry. A plurality of algorithms to prepare for receiving data form a wireless communication network may be performed independent of the baseband circuitry. After initiating the plurality of algorithms, state restoration of the baseband circuitry may be performed. Data may be received from a wireless communication network using the RF circuitry. The data may be processed using the baseband circuitry. State retention for the RF circuitry and the baseband circuitry may be performed. Finally, the crystal oscillator may be powered down to enter a second sleep state.
Abstract:
Techniques are disclosed relating to determining whether to bar a public land mobile network (PLMN). In some embodiments, a mobile device is configured to increment a count of failed requests to a PLMN for requests that are explicitly rejected by a base station and not for other requests. In some embodiments, the mobile device is configured to bar the PLMN in response to the count reaching a threshold value. In some embodiments, for requests that fail without explicit rejection, the mobile device is configured to wait a predetermined time interval before transmitting another request to the base station. The time interval may be telescoped for subsequent requests that fail without a rejection. In various embodiments, the disclosed techniques may reduce power consumption while avoiding premature PLMN barring.
Abstract:
A method for reducing power consumption by a wireless communication device is disclosed. The method can include the wireless communication device performing a first measurement of an alternative cell during a first measurement gap; sending a first measurement report generated based on the first measurement to the serving cell; storing the first measurement report; determining a mobility state of the wireless communication device; comparing the mobility state to a mobility threshold criterion; resending the first measurement report to the serving network as a report for a second measurement gap in an instance in which the mobility state satisfies the mobility criterion; and performing a second measurement of the alternative cell during the second measurement gap and sending a second measurement report generated based on the second measurement to the serving cell in an instance in which the mobility state does not satisfy the mobility threshold criterion.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to techniques for UEs (including link budget limited UEs) to improve communications performance with a cellular network. A UE may be configured to provide a request (for a first process executed by the UE) for a high-bandwidth connection to a base station of a cellular network during a first RRC connection. In some embodiments, the RRC connection is established by another process. In some embodiments, the UE is configured to receive signaling from the base station indicating that the base station cannot satisfy the high-bandwidth connection request and the UE is configured not to send or receive data for the high-bandwidth connection during the first RRC connection in response to the signaling. In some embodiments, the UE is configured to re-send the request on a second, subsequent RRC connection that is not established by the first process. In some embodiments, the UE is configured to opportunistically re-send the request on subsequent RRC connections established by one or more other processes until the base station is able to grant the request.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to techniques for a link budget limited UE to improve communications performance with a cellular network. The UE may perform signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) measurements and use these measurements to adjust a received signal power value that is provided to the cellular network as a received signal power measurement. The UE may generate the received signal power value based at least in part on the SINR measurement in order to reduce the likelihood of handover when the UE has good SINR but poor received signal power. The UE may also provide preferred configuration information to the base station which enhances the performance of the UE when link budget limited. The configuration information may specify one or more parameter values designed to provide improved performance for a link budget limited device.
Abstract:
Methods that are performed by a user equipment (UE) and corresponding methods of base stations that allow a UE to determine whether the UE is in a carrier aggregation enabled or disabled state. One exemplary embodiment of a method performed by a UE determines a first artificial value for a first parameter and a second artificial value for a power headroom (PHR) for a secondary component carrier (SCC), the first and second artificial values being substantially low relative to a configuration of the network, generates an artificial report including the first and second artificial values, transmits the artificial report to a primary cell providing a primary component carrier (PCC) and receives an indication that the UE is placed in a carrier aggregation disabled state.
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein relate to an apparatus, system, and method for providing aperiodic uplink grants to a UE for aperiodic communications from the UE to a base station. In some embodiments, the UE may be configured to communicate information to the base station, which may be useable by the base station to determine an uplink grant schedule for subsequent communications between the base station and the UE. This uplink grant schedule may be aperiodic, i.e., the uplink grants may be issued at non-uniform intervals of time. The UE may receive the uplink grants from the base station according to the uplink grant schedule. The UE may transmit uplink communications to the base station in response to the received uplink grants.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to techniques for avoiding loss of synchronization between a cellular device and a cellular network. According to some embodiments, a wireless device and a base station may perform a handshake procedure to select configuration parameters for cellular communication. The handshake procedure may establish a system frame number and subframe number at which the selected configuration parameters take effect. The wireless device and the base station may implement the selected configuration parameters at the selected system frame number and subframe number.
Abstract:
A method for resuming a voice call on a legacy network is provided. The method can include a wireless communication device establishing a voice call with a remote device over a first cellular network; determining that a connection quality of the first cellular network has dropped below a threshold connection quality; sending a notification that the wireless communication device is releasing the voice call to transition to a legacy cellular network and will resume the voice call on the legacy cellular network; releasing the voice call on the first cellular network; transitioning to the legacy cellular network; establishing a second voice call with the remote device on the legacy cellular network; and using the second voice call to resume the voice call with the remote device.
