Abstract: Disclosed are apparatuses for communication devices. An apparatus for a communication device includes control circuitry configured to determine a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) of a constant amplitude zero autocorrelation waveform (CAZAC) sequence appended with zeros in the time domain to generate a frequency domain interpolated CAZAC sequence. The control circuitry is also configured to determine an inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the frequency domain interpolated CAZAC sequence to generate a demodulation reference signal (DMRS), and cause the DMRS to be transmitted through a cellular data network. An apparatus for a communication device includes control circuitry configured to perform a Fourier transform on a received DMRS to obtain a resulting signal, and use the resulting signal as a reference to demodulate orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols. The control circuitry is also configured to perform a minimum mean squares estimation (MMSE) channel estimation on the resulting signal.

Abstract: Devices and methods of using xSS are generally disclosed. A UE receives an xPSS with (Nrep) symbols each with a subcarrier spacing of K x a PSS subcarrier spacing and a duration of a PSS symbol/K. PSD subcarriers surround the xPSS and the ZC sequence is punctured to avoid transmission on a DC subcarrier. Guard subcarriers separate the xPSS and PSD when the ZC sequence is less than the occupied BW of the xPSS and at least one element in the ZC sequence is punctured for xPSS symbol generation otherwise. One or more xSSSs and xS-SCHs may follow the xPSS. The xSS may be omnidirectional, each having a same xPSS and different xSSS or xS-SCH or a different xPSS and same xSSS or xS-SCH or beamformed, each having different xPSSs and xSSSs or xS-SCHs or a same xPSS and different xSSS or xS-SCH.

Abstract: An enhanced NodeB (eNB), user equipment (UE) and communication methods therebetween using an unlicensed channel of an unlicensed band are generally described. The eNB measures an interference power level (IPL) of the unlicensed channel at the eNB and determine a transmit power level (TPL) for a downlink transmission based on the IPL, the TPL decreasing with increasing IPL. Feedback including unlicensed channel conditions measured by the UE is used by the eNB to determine the UE-eNB proximity. The eNB determines whether to transmit the downlink transmission to the UE based on the IPL and the proximity; as the IPL increases, the eNB services increasingly proximate UEs until, when the IPL exceeds a predetermined threshold, the eNB does not service any UE using the unlicensed channel. The eNB schedules and transmits the downlink transmission to the UE using the transmit power level.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) and methods for packet based device-to-device (D2D) discovery in an LTE network are generally described herein. In some embodiments, UE may be enabled for proximity services and may be configured to receive signaling from an enhanced node B (eNB) indicating resources allocated for D2D discovery. The UE may configure a discovery packet in accordance with a predetermined configuration to have at least a discovery payload and a cyclic-redundancy check (CRC). The discovery payload may include discovery-related content. The UE may be configured to transmit the discovery packet on at least some of the indicated resources for receipt by a receiving UE. In some embodiments, a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) may be selected to indicate a payload size and/or MCS of the discovery packet's payload.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate generally to a communication between a user equipment (“UE”) and an evolved Node Bs (“eNBs”) in a plurality of frequency bands. An eNB may transmit cross-carrier, cross-subframe scheduling information to a UE in a licensed frequency band. In response reception of the scheduling information, the UE may sense a wireless transmission medium to determine if the medium is idle. If the medium is idle, the UE may generate and transmit a request to reserve the medium in the unlicensed frequency band (e.g., a Clear-to-Send message). The eNB may transmit downlink data to the UE in the unlicensed frequency band. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.
