THIS INVENTION IS ADDRESSED TO SILICA GEL GRAINS CONTAINING FOREIGN IONS INCLUDING AN ALALI METAL CATION, WHEREIN THE ALKALI METAL IS SELECTED FROM A GROUP CONSISTING OF LITHIUM, SODIUM, POTASSIUM AND CERSIUM, ALONG WITH AN ACIDIC ANION SELECTED FROM A GROUP CONSISTING OF SULFATE, PHOSPHATE, CHLORIDE, BROMIDE AND IODIDE ANIONS, AND TO METHODS FOR THEIR PREPARATION.

Solutions of curing catalysts for polysiloxanes containing a zinc, cadmium, titanium or zirconium salt, an alkylbenzenesulfonic acid salt, a polyethylene glycol compound and an organic solvent are used together with aqueous emulsions of organopolysiloxanes for finishing fiber materials such as paper or textiles.

The physical characteristics of the catalytic composite disposed within the individual stages, or reaction zones, are different. This difference in physical characteristics is directed toward macropore volume, and is maintained whether the chemical composition is the same, or varies.

CONTAINING ACID SITES INTO CONTACT WITH A BASIC AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF A PALLADIUM AMINE OR A PALLADIUM LOWER ALKYLAMINE COMPLEX-AND, ALTERNATIVELY, ALSO INTO CONTACT WITH AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF A WATER-SOLUBLE SALT OF A 3- OR 4-VALENT METAL (ALUMINUM NITRATE, TITANIUM TETRACHLORIDE, ETC.), AND SUBJECTING THE THUS-TREATED SOLID CARRIER TO A THERMAL TREATMENT (HEATING E.G.
