    摘要: Thin solid state drive (SSD) housing structures are described. According to one embodiment of the invention, a structure for housing an SSD includes a pair of brackets configured to support a PCBA of the SSD at either side of the PCBA via one or more ledges with corresponding fastener holes pre-configured thereon. The ledges are attached to inside surface of the brackets. Each of the brackets has a slab shape with a length and a height. The length is parallel to horizontal direction, while the height parallel to vertical. The ledges are located at mid-height and orientated substantially perpendicular to the brackets such that the PCBA is supported horizontally. In order to securely connect the PCBA with the brackets, a plurality of metal fasteners is used. The fasteners are placed through the fastener holes on the ledges and through corresponding alignment holes pre-configured on the PCBA.

    摘要: A Universal-Serial-Bus (USB) device has a USB plug that is centered over a center-line of a circuit board. The circuit board with flash memory and a USB flash controller has metal pads that a USB connector is soldered to. The USB connector has a rear step that is about half the height of the USB connector plug. Contacts on the rear step are soldered to the metal pads on the circuit board so that the USB connector is centered around the edge of the circuit board. The overall height of the flash device can be reduced since the bulky USB connector is not attached off-center to the circuit board, but is attached at the half-height rear step. Both the USB connector and the circuit board share the same center line, allowing a printed-circuit board assembly (PCBA) to be symmetric around the center line.

    摘要: Portable electronic storage device (PESD) manufacturing methods utilizing lead frames are described. According to one exemplary embodiment, a process of manufacturing core unit of PESD comprises: producing a processed flash memory IC chip with several metal contact pads and at least one passive component located on top layer; pre-fabricating a lead frame having opposing first and second surfaces, a plurality of metal connectors disposed on the first surface and a cavity through both surfaces; attaching the top layer of the processed flash memory IC chip onto the first surface such that the metal connectors are electrically connected to the respective metal contact pads and the cavity provides an non-conductive space for the at least one passive component; and forming a molded enclosure on both surfaces of the lead frame to form a core unit, the mold enclosure is configured such that the connectors are exposed according to one of the PESD standards.

    摘要: An electronic data flash card is accessible by a host system, and includes a flash memory controller and at least one flash memory device coupled to the flash controller. The boot code and control code for the flash memory system (flash card) are stored in the flash memory device during a programming procedure. The flash controller transfers the boot code and control code to a volatile main memory (e.g., random access memory or RAM) at start up or reset making a RAM-based memory system. Boot code and control code are selectively overwritten during a code updating operation. A single flash controller thus supports multiple brands and types of flash memory to eliminate stocking issues.

    摘要: In an electronic data storage medium accessed by a data terminal, a fingerprint sensor scans a fingerprint of a user of the electronic data storage medium and generals fingerprint scan data. A processing unit is operable operable selectively in a programming mode, where the processing unit activates an input/output interface circuit to store a data file and fingerprint reference data obtained by scanning a fingerprint of a person authorized to access the data file in a memory device, and a data retrieving mode, where the processing unit activates the input/output interface circuit to transmit the data file to the data terminal upon verifying that the user of the electronic data storage medium is authorized to access the data file stored in the memory device as a result of comparison between the fingerprint scan data from the fingerprint sensor and the fingerprint reference data.

    摘要: A flash-memory device has a printed-circuit board assembly (PCBA) with a PCB with a flash-memory chip and a controller chip. The controller chip includes an input/output interface circuit to an external computer over a Secure-Digital (SD) interface, and a processing unit to read blocks of data from the flash-memory chip. The PCBA is encased inside an upper case and a lower case, with SD contact pads on the PCB that fit through contact openings in the upper case. Supporting end ribs under each of the SD contact pads and middle ribs support the PCB at a slanted angle to the centerline of the device. The PCB slants upward at the far end to allow more thickness for the chips mounted to the bottom surface of the PCB, and slants downward at the insertion end to position the SD contact pads near the centerline.

In one embodiment, the portable USB data exchanger includes at least one flash memory chip having a multi-level cell (MLC) memory array, a flash memory controller coupled to the at least one flash memory chip, the flash memory controller having a USB on-the-go (OTG) capability and controlling reading and writing of the flash memory chip, a first extended USB (EUSB) connector coupled to the flash memory controller to be coupled to a host, and a second EUSB connector coupled to the flash memory controller to be coupled to a slave USB device. The Portable USB data exchanger can communicate with either a host or a slave USB device without polling. Other methods and apparatuses are also described.
