The present invention relates to an artificial hip joint replacement system. The system includes an acetabulum portion comprising a cup suitable to be received by a subject's acetabular bone. The cup includes a rigid portion and an elastic portion attached to the rigid portion. Also included in the system is a ball received within the cup and in contact with the elastic portion and a femoral stem attached to the ball. The elastic portion is positioned to cause expansion and contraction of a space between the ball and the rigid portion of the cup so they are further apart from one another during periods of low mechanical loads.

The present invention relates to a polymer-free nano-composite structure containing nanostructured carbon and nanoparticles. Also disclosed are methods of making the polymer-free nano-composite structures. The present invention also relates to a lithium ion battery, a capacitor, a supercapacitor, a battery/capacitor, or a fuel cell containing the polymer-free nano-composite structures of the present invention.

A viscosity measurement device includes a flexible membrane, an actuation heating element, and a displacement sensor apparatus. The actuation heating element is on and spaced in from an outer periphery of the flexible membrane. The displacement sensor apparatus is coupled to the flexible membrane and measures and outputs a displacement signal representative of a viscosity of a fluid in contact with the flexible membrane.

A structure is provided. The structure includes a signal retrieval circuit formed within a disk located within a coaxial cable connector. The signal retrieval circuit is located in a position that is external to a signal path of an electrical signal flowing through the coaxial cable connector. The signal retrieval circuit is configured to extract an energy signal from the electrical signal flowing through the coaxial cable connector. The energy signal is configured to apply power to an electrical device located within the coaxial cable connector. The sensing circuit is configured to sense physical parameter such as condition of the RF electrical signal flowing through the connector or presence of moisture in the connector. The structure may include an integrated circuit configured to convert the parameter signal into a data acquisition signal readable by the integrated circuit.

A dosimetry device includes at least one sensor in a housing and a dosimetry processing device with a memory. The dosimtery processing device is coupled to the at least one sensor in the housing. The dosimetry processing device is configured to execute programmed instructions stored in the memory comprising: obtaining readings from the sensor; storing the readings; conducting an analysis of the stored readings to determine an injury risk assessment; and outputting at least one of the conducted analysis of the determined injury risk assessment or the stored readings.

A continuously variable transmission system and a method of making a continuously variable transmission system is described. The present invention includes a gear set having at least a sun gear, one or more planetary gears, and a planetary gear carrier arm on which the one or more planetary gears are mounted for rotational movement. The sun gear and the one or more planetary gears are mounted for rotational engagement and movement with respect to each other, and one of the sun gears and the planetary gear carrier arm couples to an input shaft and another portion of the gear set couples to an output shaft to receive feedback. A rotary coupling unit having an input rotationally coupled to at least one of the one of the sun gears and the planetary gear carrier arm and an output that rotationally couples to the output shaft is also provided.

A method, non-transitory computer readable medium, and apparatus that assist with object recognition includes determining when at least one eye of an observer fixates on a location in one or more of a sequence of fixation tracking images. The determined fixation location in the one or more of the sequence of fixation tracking images is correlated to a corresponding one of one or more sequence of field of view images. At least the determined fixation location in each of the correlated sequence of field of view images is classified based on at least one of a classification input or a measurement and comparison of one or more features of the determined fixation location in each of the correlated sequence of field of view images against one or more stored measurement feature values. The determined classification of the fixation location in each of the correlated sequence of field of view images is output.
